We had the good fortune of connecting with Trinity Newman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trinity, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I absolutely love working with my hands and I offer many talents that needed to be shared. I was receiving so many requests for items that I knew it was time to launch my own business where I offer several services from custom dresses, tumblers, and newly added hair care and body care products that are all handmade by me. I wanted to provide a service for those that appreciate standing out and looking great and feeling great while doing so
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally? Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Being a full time comedian and an owner of a new body and hair care line keeps me extremely busy at the moment. Being a comedian, I am always extremely nervous and excited for the experience that comes with getting on that stage and bringing laughter to different types of audiences. What sets me apart is that I do not limit myself to one branch. I continue to look for new ways to expand my comedy and audiences. Performing at several of the top comedy clubs in Los Angeles and Houston has helped me become the seasoned comedian as well as host that I am today. With my brand, No’Millia Designs, I am a self taught designer. I was never professionally taught how to sew but I have managed to create some of the most beautiful unique pieces I’ve ever seen. When the pandemic started, I had an idea to put fashion on the face and created a unique mask that quickly went viral. From there, I managed to make well over 1800 masks to help keep people safe while looking their best. Having a brand is never easy and one of the biggest challenges is making sure not to stop and not procrastinate. Overcoming challenges is still something I deal with but I continue to remind myself that the things I am doing are needed and appreciated.
I want those reading this to know that being able to bring laughter to different groups of people from a Bar Mitzvah, to comedy clubs, OSTEM events, festivals and weddings and more has been so fulfilling to my life. One way that I’ve always managed to continue building my brands is by making most of my outfits that I wear while on stage entertaining.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I was entertaining my best friend, I’d definitely take them to downtown Houston to enjoy some of the graffiti walls, as well as jump on a scooter to show them more of the city while enjoying Houston’s weather. We would definitely have to stop by Pappadeaux’s, In and Out Burger, The Turkey Leg Hut and Frank’s for breakfast and Lucille’s for brunch. I’d definitely take them to a roof top bar so they can enjoy the music, while viewing the city’s landscapes. We have so many outdoor restaurants, I’d for sure take them to grab a couple of pictures while enjoying some of the best food ever.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shout out my parents, family, as well as my friends who have all continued to root for me even when I didn’t have the energy to do it myself.
