We had the good fortune of connecting with Użo Ukeje and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Użo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly my thought process in starting my own businesses was that I wanted something that would be a creative extension of me. Something that represents me and that I could see myself funneling my creative ideas and energy towards.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Great question! Umm I’d honestly say what sets me apart from others is that most of everything I do comes from the heart. It’s not a facade , it’s not for this or that , it’s just a representation of what I stand for.
I’d say what I’m most proud of is being consistent and pushing forward everyday . Nothing in life comes easy , and if you truly believe in what you do and feel purposeful doing it then by all means continue striving.
How did I get to where I am today ? If I’m being honest , really just stepping out of my comfort zone. Trying not to remain stagnant but consistently taking steps forward for progression which sometimes is not easy at all. You may run into creative blocks , or may feel burnt out but make sure to take your time , get yourself together and go after what you want.
What I want the world to know about my story and brands are that there’s purpose behind it. In life we are giving challenges that we need to look in the eye, and instead of letting the challenge stop us we MUST blow past through it to achieve what we’ve set out to do.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely have to mention Post HTX. There’s plenty food options available from across the world and showcases different design aesthetics throughout the building.
Bijou, Lost and Found, Aria Suya Kitchen, Thai Bistro are also nice places to stop by and enjoy a great meal depending on what your tastebuds are feeling.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course!! I always tell those who ask that a big part of me tapping into my creative abilities stems from the group of people I was around when I was first exploring my interest. Samuel, Raphael and Chris were the main catalyst in peaking my interest, whether it was modeling , designing , photoshoots, video shoots . recap videos and etc.
