We had the good fortune of connecting with Vaiccia Hamilton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vaiccia, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Balancing work life is very important, it can make or break your business and you mentally. When you first start out you have a million ideas and you’re trying to do them all. That will burn you out fast and your business will suffer. I’ve learned to make a schedule and stick to it. You also need to balance out your time. Do a few things today, take a break work on a couple more things over the next few days. Make sure you research everything and run your business the way you will want to be treated. Customer service is everything, you are your brand.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started out as an romance author and branched out into candle making. Once I finished all my research and testing phase, the pandemic hit. Everything was shut down plus it was hard to find materials in stock. That made everything a little more difficult. You had to find ways to market your product and buy in bulk whenever the materials were in stock. My candles are based off love. The feeling, the smells and the look. Romancing Wicks promotes self love and celebrates all types of love. From our names that match the smells to the look of our products. I want the world to know we are a small business that cares about our customers, putting out safe products and creating lasting memories through our candles. I’ve learned to be patient, productive, and stick to a plan.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston has something for everyone. Its best to look on social media for a lot of the hidden gems. Some of my favorite restaurants are Pappadeaux (classic), underground hall, the cheese cake factory, and a new resturant called Juliet.
some nice spots to visit are the Brown Sugar Café & Books, Hermann Park, Japanese Garden, Galveston, Post Houston and we have a mall in every part of town. Me and my friends find new places on Instagram all the time from food bloggers.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize my sister Amber Hamilton. She helps me out a lot and is also my COO. Have someone pick up some of the heavy load business owners carry is very important. You get more things done a lot faster plus you don’t have to stress about doing it alone. She helps with social media, marketing, and production.
