We had the good fortune of connecting with Vandi Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vandi, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Rowlett, Texas and I truly believe that all of who I am today results from what I was freely given at 1901 Chiesa Road – the home of Fordie and Mamie Willis, my dear grandparents. Growing up, along with my siblings, I was raised by my amazing mom and two grandparents who showered everyone with love, humbleness, and generosity; which derived from them imitating the love of Jesus Christ. My mom was a single parent and worked hard to provide for my brother, sister, and myself. So, of course without question, my grandparents were her shepherds looking after her baby sheep (laughing). Okay, that was funny, but seriously it was a norm for us to be with our grandparents all the time. If we weren’t out fishing with Mar (that’s what I called my grandma) or having fun raking the leaves with my Papa, we’d listen to their stories or find ourselves being bored. Oh, and Papa was a Pastor so we definitely had tons of bible studies. Though, I wouldn’t change it for the world. Within my younger years I didn’t understand what I know now regarding the lessons/values that were being taught: love, servanthood, and gratitude. Today, I am who I am because God chose my mom and grandparents for me. I know how to love because of them, I give because of them, and I always have hope in Jesus because of them. Their love is unmatched, and because of them I can honestly say I have experienced heaven on earth. This is why I am a photographer and why I love capturing the beauty of others – especially when they share their stories with me. We all have a story that goes deeper than one can see. And I’m glad I’m able to share a bit of mines. Share your story – it just may heal someone. I am humbled by my past, grateful for my present, and excited about my future – all because Patricia, Fordie, and Mamie taught me how to live, love, and be grateful.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Vandi Moore Photography was established in 2016. Though, when I was 11 years old, I received my first Kodak single-use camera and from there, I fell in love with capturing the present that turns into unforgettable memories. I love capturing almost everything! Still shots are great, but I really love those candid ones; stories are told and beautiful emotions are revealed. I’m truly honored when my clients choose me to capture beauty with them and their loved ones. I am also a photographer at my church and I absolutely love it. I am a natural light photographer and the majority of my sessions take place at different outside locations. I love natural light – God did an amazing job with creating it for our use! Plus, I believe it enhances a person’s natural beauty and provides me with so much joy during and after every sessions. I’m most proud of the lives that are being changed by the beauty that is captured. I feel blessed to be a part of other people’s lives. What sets me apart is allowing myself to learn from others – spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. I feel those aspects help me achieve what I’m passionate about. Personally, going after my dream wasn’t hard. I just finally reached a place of investment within myself, and trusting that I am able to do all things that are a part of my life’s purpose and vision. I want the world to know that I couldn’t accomplish anything I set out to do without Jesus and my community of supporters: family, friends, and clients that become family/friends.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmm, we’d visit places that have a lot of sun, good food, good music, and lots of dancing. These are a few of my favorite spots: Kulture (good live music and food) Breakfast Klub (good food) Miss Carousel (good music and wings) Phil & Derek’s (good music) Truck Yard (sunshine, cool games, and food trucks)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh, yes, very much so! I’d like to shoutout my mom (Patricia aka Cupcake) and my sister (Nikki). I thank you both so much for your love, honesty, guidance, and support. Mom, all my success goes to you and you’ll always be my inspiration. You have taught and taken well care of me, so now it’s my time to do the same for you. Nikki, our bond is so amazing. Long story short, you’re my super hero. Thank you for always encouraging me to shoot beyond the stars!
