We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanity Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanity, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have been a writer since I was a child. I used to write short stories and poems growing up with dreams of becoming a published author. I knew that I wanted to use my books to inspire not only my readers, but other aspiring authors as well. After years and years of dreaming, one day I decided to write the book and figure out the rest.
I wrote my first children’s book, A Girl and Her Grandpa, in just a few hours. After a few months of research, I immersed myself in learning about publishing. My books have gone on to be available online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and Walmart so far because of this.
My stories are meant to inspire healthy relationship building and self-confidence. As I expand my business, I plan to release more books that tackle multiple subjects, but teach readers something at the core of each. Whether it’s learning to love yourself, like in my second book, A Crown Like Mine, or exploring new concepts, I want learning something to be the center of my children’s books and my brand as an author.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most excited about continuing to develop stories that positively impact my readers. I am dedicating my life to creating worlds that children can find themselves in and come out of them more knowledgeable and curious.
My journey to get here was not and still is not easy. Through prayer, making time and hard work, I have continued to grow as an author. There are days where I feel like I don’t know enough and don’t have time to do a lot of things I want to do. There are days I’m fearful my books won’t be successful.
I stand by the fact that everything happens when it’s supposed to, how it’s supposed to. God has designed our lives and each step is a part of the path He has created for us. I remind myself of this on days where I am overwhelmed.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Any Pappas restaurant, a spa, the Houston Zoo, Memorial City, Sugarland Town Center
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would be nothing without my village! I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my husband, parents, mother-in-law and best friends who not only support me in all I do, but are most times the greatest sources of feedback and creativity as I build my business.
