We had the good fortune of connecting with Vera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vera, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
To care. To care about what you craft, what you offer, your opinion, your style, your voice… because it is the only thing that matters in a free market/business.
What should our readers know about your business?
Vera Loo Presents is a small soap shop based in Houston, Texas that serves people with sensitive skin. The products are inspired by magic and crafted for comfy skin. The intention behind this brand is to serve people with awesome products, as well as educate the general public about the disparities faced by people of color in healthcare via dermatology.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a time in the city, I would go to many local watering holes. First off, all of the legendary /iconic landmarks and institutions such as the galleria, thrift shopping in Montrose, and a few of the museums. Then visit all of the parks to people watch (Houston has some of the most diverse and interesting pool of people) and grab TexMex ( it matters! ) Lastly, would visit a few of the new rooftop concepts such as The Post, and close out things with some local house parties. There’s so much to choose from to be honest, this is mild.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to my mother, LaTorchia N. Beane.
