We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Gavlik and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started with pottery many years Ago as a hobby. After my home commitments quieted down I decided to move it into a buisiness and start doing shows. It would be the dream doing what I love for a living. That was how Vicky’s Velocity Ceramics started.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My brand took many phases to become my brand. I do not and won’t make for others wants. I create what calls me to be created. I know there are ways to do this that would be more profitable but I started this late in my life so I do what enjoy. I like whimsical, Thought provoking and curious creations. I enjoy both when people look at my work and say why and look and say wow I get you ! I get it both often. I work a lot when I can it’s sometime very frustrating to run the small business aspect when I want to be playing my craft. Though it’s worth it that I get to do what I want to do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to bellaire for lovely Asian food. The Houston zoo and some local breweries. Houston is a wonderful drivable city and there is so much to do.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Isadorables Lynette me mentored me when starting out on how to do markets and what to looks for.
