We had the good fortune of connecting with Vismita, Shiela & Visak Varghese and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vismita, Shiela & Visak, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
In 2004, our family hopped on a flight to America. ✈️
In 2008, our mom suffered a major neck and shoulder injury from a car accident.
In 2013, our dad had a heart attack.
We being kids, hadn’t even graduated college and both our parents had major health issues.
Fast forward to when I was 18 🎓, we started doing Bollywood cardio & strength pop-up classes, and kid’s classes.
In Dec 2019, after the outpouring support from the community, we opened our studio doors, at the age of 19.
Three months later, COVID-19 hit.
7 months later into 2020, our father left us.
During this time, we were hurting as a family and a small business.
We wondered how the stigma of parental separation in our culture would affect our business.
We realized everyone had a battle they were fighting.
We initially started Bollycurves, because we couldn’t find what we were looking for. We knew there were others looking for exercises modified to their injuries and at their pace.
But now, Bollycurves is not only a space for physical health but also mental health.
In the end, it was our community and those who supported us during this time that glued us together as a family.
Our journey wasn’t easy and we know you have one too, so we’ve created a safe space for you.
This is our story.
We’re mother-daughter-son owned. 👩👧👦
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart is our focus on mental & physical health. Kids walk away with increased confidence and adults have more mental peace.
Some of the lessons we learned along the way has been always be ready to adapt. (During COVID-19, we were the only Bollywood studio to convert our group classes into private 1-on-1s.) Learn to cut your losses and move on and never get comfortable.
The proudest we’ve been being able to keep our doors open during this time. We opened three months before COVID hit and we’re so thankful to those that have supported us during this time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here are our favorite spots in Missouri City:
Grand Indian Kitchen – Indian Food
Old Hickory Inn Barbecue – BBQ
Froberg’s Farm – Strawberry Picking
Oyster Creek Park – Great place to have a picnic
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In our story, it’s our Sienna and Riverstone community who helped us become who we are. Opening a business during COVID-19 hasn’t been easy. Our community is the reason we’ve been able to keep our doors open.
