We had the good fortune of connecting with Winnie Nyatome-Warner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Winnie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
while in college, I quickly learned that I am not one to give up on goals that I have set. one of those goals was to never take morning classes because I am the worst morning person. so when I started my big girl job in 2017 I soon realized getting up early to work for someone was not for me. I was constantly tired and barely enjoying breathing. I started dreaming of having a job where I get to make my own schedule & be able to sleep in. a guy I knew in college had just started taking photos and one day I complimented him and told him I wish I could take photos. he looked at me and asked me why I could, I told him I didn’t know how. he responded and said to just pick up a camera and take photos. 3 years later, i am a full wedding & life style Photographer all because i wanted to sleep in. I believe anything and everything is possible.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, I am focusing on weddings and couples and I absolutely love it. I think something that sets me apart, is the fact that I sincerely enjoy being with my couples and photographing their love story. I got to where I am today because it’s something I desired to do. I think when you have a desire to accomplish something, nothing can stand in your way. There are always challenges to everything, and to help make the person better equipped for future challenges. As a creative in a field where there are many different styles & creatives, it’s easy to get distracted with comparisons in every area creatively. something I have had to tell myself is to focus on myself and my work. That the only person I am competing with is my yesterday self and that has been refreshing.

something I want people to know about my brand/story is that it’s a labor of love wrapped up in sweet times & intentional moments. Every image I take and include in a gallery is personal, important, and speak volume. photos truly do speak a million words.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have lived in a small town in East Texas for almost 10 years now in a small oldest town in Texas called Nacogodoches. I have a lot of sweet favorite things to do here. If a friend was staying with me for a week, we will go window shopping in downtown, and grab lunch at the Fredonia Hotel’s First city cafe. In the evenings we will go for a walk or sit out front and watch the sunset. Throughout the week many restaurants have deals for dinner + drinks that we would enjoy. one of my favorite restaurant is called Maks and they have things like fried avocado tacos & fried Mac balls. We will finish many nights with a glass of wine at one of the few wineries in town & and finish the night watching a favorite show/movie. For nights out, we will go to karaoke at frogs, the cottage for wine + cheese, or go country two stepping all night & enjoy wells + beers.

For sight seeing we will go to one of the many SFA trails & gardens. There is also a lake near by for breathing in and enjoying the outdoors.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My sweet husband Nathan definitely deserves recognition for being the sweetest friend to me. When I started taking photos he posed for me and encouraged me to keep trying. It’s nice to have a sweet friend/husband along on the journey to support you in every corner.
