We had the good fortune of connecting with Xavier Bishop and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Xavier, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well… starting my own business this early on was certainly not my intension. I tell people it was really all by accident, and what I mean by that, is it was not in my plan to ever do anything like it, but I have always known I would start my own business. Zay’s Signature Creations all started with creating picnic dates for family and friends before it was ever thought of as a business. It was something I enjoyed doing and my family encouraged me to turn it into something more because they saw the potential of where it could go. I thought “why not?” “Something fun to do on the side while I continue to grow in my career. Right?” It all started out as Elegant Picnics by Zay’s Signature Creations, and fast forward today, Zays Signature Creations, LLC is a multi-service business that strives to provide TRUE hospitality through elegant picnics, private dining, custom gift baskets, and Bookie’s Brookies – Bringing individuals together and enriching their happiness, joy, and laughter, leaving them with everlasting memories. So as you can see, my thought process has completely changed overtime and there is so much in-store for Zay’s Signature Creations. I never would have thought it would go this far and I have truly fallen in love with my business and even more with the hospitality industry.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Zay’s Signature Creations was founded in July of 2020 by myself. The mission was and is to always serve our clients through TRUE hospitality. That is what truly sets us apart from others. Hospitality is everything to me. It is not just providing a service. It is providing the best quality of service, showing value through it, and making a positive impact on someone’s life through kindness. Someone once told me, “The service is what someone pays for, but hospitality is free.” Through each service we provide, we strive to ensure all of our clients’ needs are exceeded and they are beyond satisfied.
As we continue to grow, I am most excited about meeting new people and bringing happiness to their life in any way through our many services. We have positively impacted so many lives since we started and that is what truly keeps me going. I enjoy seeing people happy and when they are not, I try to find a way to bring sunshine to their life. I am truly proud of the connections we have built with such wonderful individuals and how we have consistently evolved to provide TRUE hospitality.
Business-wise, I am where I am today because of my wonderful family, friends, and loyal clients. They have all played a role in the growth of Zay’s Signature Creations. My family were true guinea pigs before it all started out with every service that we currently offer. With our loyal clients, they allowed me the opportunity to continue to service them as we’ve grown overtime and continue to support us in everyday through 5 star reviews and sharing all the great things we do. It was certainly not easy getting to where we are today with not only the usual challenges of starting a business, but with COVID-19 and the winter storm we faced. I am so grateful that we have been able to make it through it all. I was able to overcome all of the challenges we faced because I am passionate about what we do. Whenever a challenge comes in our way, I always find a way to get through it by taking the time to evaluate the situation, looking at it from different perspectives, and creating solutions to overcome it.
I have really learned that not everything will always be perfect and go as planned. This was one of the biggest challenges I faced starting a business, because I am a true perfectionist. Starting out, this really held me back because it was not always easy to move on when something would not turn out perfect the way I wanted it to. I was able to overcome this challenge by really listening to my sister, Ayanna, when we would sit down and evaluate things. She would share her perspective on situations and I would realize that maybe it did not turn out as planned, but it still came out wonderful. It really took me seeing different perspectives even more to understand and appreciate what is in front of me. I have realized that not everything will always turn out the way you planned it, but it is how you execute it to make everything come together with value and appreciating the process to arriving there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this to my beautiful little sister, Ayanna. She has helped me build this business from the ground up and our bond has grown even stronger because of it. This business would not be where it is today without her.
Ayanna taught me so much working with her side-by-side and I learned even more about myself than ever before. I learned how to communicate even better and how even more important it is to value those around you most that continue to root for you no matter what. Not everyone will always see or understand your vision the way you do, and she would always try her best to understand/see my vision because she actually cared, which pushed me even more to identify ways to deliver it. Ayanna made me realize how important it is to learn how people receive and deliver communication to be able to really understand and communicate with them. Notice those who continue to try and understand you and your vision – appreciate them, because it is a rare thing.
I am so grateful and blessed to have a sister like Ayanna in my life. Working with her has truly contributed to my grow with not only the business, but as a person in general. I thank her so much for joining me on this journey and I would have rather it be any other way.
