We had the good fortune of connecting with Ye the Artist and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ye the Artist, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In 2017 I knew that I needed to step outside of my comfort zone to grow. After completing this drawing of my favorite rapper, I decided to take a leap of faith upon graduating with my Bachelor’s of Science. The rapper, Big Sean has a song titled “Nothing is Stopping You”. I must’ve listened to it a thousand times. Moving to Houston showed me what can happen when one is truly inspired and empowered. I want everyone to experience that. Own Your Throne Creations is about art that inspires, elevates and empowers one to be themselves, whatever that may look like to you!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an event planner, I’m always thinking of creative ways to help people be social and I thoroughly enjoy finding new ways to enjoy life. OYT is meant to move you. Whether you are receiving a custom painting or enjoying one of my paint and sip classes, you will feel moved. Moved to go out and choose to be the best you each day. Imagine if everyone had someone coaching them out of bed everyday, we’d all be a little further in life. The journey getting here has not been easy, but it is through the struggles and through the “no’s” where true growth happens. Everyone should be reminded of the greatness that exists within them, Own Your Throne intends to do so.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would love to start the day with either ATV riding or maybe doing a bike tour to brunch. Turkey Leg Hut and Bisou would be on the itinerary as well as hearing good music at any bar/lounge with a patio. We’d hit a museum and Discovery Green. The rest of the trip would just be played by ear cause who knows when a nap will sound more appealing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I could write a book on the people who deserve credit for getting me where I am today. First, I will give all honor to God, without Him my gift is nothing. Secondly, a huge shoutout to my mom who let me paint all over my walls as a child (no consequences either lol).To my best friends who encouraged me to keep painting, the roommate that always came home to me and Bob Ross on Netflix, the family that loved on me through the struggles, my ZFT runmates that provide a good rage when I need it, the coworkers that encouraged me to pursue my passions deeper, thank you!! I love you all
