Hi Yetunde, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Embarking on my journey into event planning, my primary focus was centered on the thrill of establishing an international brand. As an inherent entrepreneur, the spirit of business has been ingrained in me since birth, shaping my childhood dreams and persisting into adulthood. This entrepreneurial drive has led me to successfully initiate around 10 businesses, showcasing my ability to sell diverse products and generate substantial profits. The excitement of making an impact in the event planning industry is not only a professional aspiration but also a continuation of a lifelong passion for entrepreneurial endeavors. Each business venture I’ve undertaken has not only contributed to my success but also fueled my unwavering commitment to the dynamic world of entrepreneurship.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The UpperRoom Events is an award winning event planning company that specializes in sophisticated celebrations that are full of style. We provide local and destination luxury event planning services. Our services are built on the essential facets of successful event management-connecting people, devising smart solutions, and seeing the big picture while also mastering the fine details. We offer exceptional event planning and creative design for celebrity events, local and destination weddings, social events, private affairs and corporate functions. I am most proud of my companies work process. We truly reflect an authentic desire to make clients and guest feel calm, comfortable and welcomed. Our clients continuously describe us as the “High efficiency/low stress” event planning company! Every outstanding and remarkable event begins with precise planning, meticulous communication and by working closely with diverse teams, we execute phenomenal events that meet and exceed our client’s expectations-all with seeming ease and efficiency.

Our journey to becoming a trailblazer in the industry has been fueled by dedication, creativity, and an unwavering passion for exceeding expectations. We worked extremely hard to become a household name and it was not easy. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint at heart. Building a business takes time. We faced challenges but with persistence and adaptability, we learned invaluable lessons that shaped our approach in the process.

Twelve years immersed in the industry have instilled in me the unwavering belief in myself and my brand, recognizing that confidence is key when forging a path to success. In this journey, I’ve discovered the importance of shutting out negative influences that attempt to sow seeds of doubt, choosing instead to cultivate a mindset of self-assurance. The invaluable lesson of persistence echoes loudly; giving up is not an option. Embracing life with purpose, rather than merely existing, has become my guiding principle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, I can’t express how much I adore Houston, Texas and would entertain my friends like royalty! Since I’m a try planner picture this: we would kick off our week with a fantastic morning at Common Bond Café & Bakery in Downtown. Then, we’ll dive into the Museum District, checking out the Houston Museum of Natural Science, followed by a mouthwatering Southern lunch at The Raven Grill. After that, we’ll take it easy, strolling through Hermann Park and maybe even pedal boating on McGovern Lake. And to cap off the day, a swanky dinner awaits at Brennan’s of Houston.

Moving on to Day 2, our cultural immersion starts with a cozy coffee session at Blacksmith and a visit to The Menil Collection. For lunch, it’s Tex-Mex heaven at The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation. The Heights neighborhood murals are on the agenda for the afternoon, leading up to a lively performance in the Houston Theater District. And for dinner? We’re indulging in seafood delights at Liberty Kitchen & Oysterette.

Day 3 is all about outdoor adventures. We’ll kick things off with a tasty breakfast at Baby Barnaby’s Cafe, then head to Buffalo Bayou Park for a kayaking adventure. A picnic at Eleanor Tinsley Park sounds like the perfect lunch, followed by a visit to the Houston Zoo in the afternoon. And guess what? We’re wrapping up the day with a Texas BBQ feast at Gatlin’s BBQ.

Now, Day 4 is a treat-yourself kind of day. We’ll start with a leisurely breakfast at Black Walnut Café, indulge in some retail therapy at The Galleria, and feast on local flavors at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen for lunch. After that, it’s chill time at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, leading us to a delightful dinner at Liberty Kitchen & Oysterette.

Day 5 is all about entertainment. . Breakfast at Baby Barnaby’s Cafe kicks it off, followed by a visit to Space Center Houston. Pizza at Pink’s Pizza fuels us up for exploring the eclectic Montrose neighborhood in the afternoon. Come evening, we’re treating ourselves to exceptional sushi at Uchi, and then diving into the vibrant comedy shows at night.

For Day 6, We’ll take a day trip to Galveston. Breakfast at Sunflower Bakery & Café sets the tone, followed by some beach time on Galveston Island. Lunch at Gaido’s Seafood Restaurant is a must, and we’ll explore The Strand Historic District in the afternoon. We’ll wrap up our Galveston adventure and head back to Houston for a hearty Texan dinner at Killen’s BBQ.

And finally, we’ll wind down our incredible week on Day 7. Brunch at Black Walnut Café is the perfect start, followed by a visit to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. We’ll relax at Discovery Green in the afternoon and reflect on our unforgettable week over a cozy dinner at Backstreet Café. Trust me, this meticulously crafted itinerary is all about soaking in Houston’s diverse culture, enjoying the outdoors, savoring delicious meals, and experiencing the city’s vibrant nightlife. It will be a trip for them to remember!
