We had the good fortune of connecting with Yobi Yobz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yobi, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My life choice to peruse this dream has been a big risk. Coming out of where it’s not normal to have a 9-5 I had my goals set that that wouldn’t be my lifestyle. To to downplay the 9-5 life bc it’s very essential to normal day to day people. I just saw something more exciting for my self. It was a risk just to want to be a DJ. “Who would hire you?” “How are you going to make this work?” “You’ve done this plenty of times but now you’re doing it to live and not just for fun.” That’s all the things that were running through my mind constantly. But I also believed in myself and I had a lot of skill to back that up so I just keep pushing. From taking the risk to moving to NYC. To taking the risk of moving back because I wasn’t going to settle for just anything. It’s always going to be a risk/reward the question is are you willing to take the risk on yourself?Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well I’m a DJ/Producer and what I’m most excited about is the fact that I wake up everyday doing the things that I love. I’m not stuck in a unhappy situation trying to make a living. I’m really blessed. This job is definitely not easy nor for the weak hearted. It constantly tests your mental state but if you want something bad enough you’ll endure hardships. Everyday I deal with challenges, it comes with the business and it also comes with growth. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to not give up on myself. Trust me I know it seems cliché but that’s really the end goal. Believing in yourself will be the best thing you can do, because when you do that you give a reason for other people to believe in you too and that’s a trickle effect that can catch on quick.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I would definitely be a weekend of eating. We would have to for sure go see my boy chops at the French fry house. It’s so many combinations of good food on top of French fries. Then you’d have to come catch a vibe with me on a Thursday night at A’dor. Where the wings are 50 cent all night and the vibes are on 10. Friday nights are for the locker room. With Fridays being so prominent in Houston you can have quite a few options, but look no further the locker room is one of the city’s newest popular spot. Where the vibes are even greater than the food and that’s hard to match. Saturday we would be hitting brunch at grooves Houston where the catfish and grits are sooooo good. Finally Sunday we would definitely have to visit the breakfast klub all the food there is amazing. Don’t be shocked by the line that wraps around the corner. That’s usual they normally move very quickly and it will be worth the 20-25 min wait in line! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well first for sure God My Legends do live family and my personal support system.
