We had the good fortune of connecting with Young Chapa 713 and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Young, what do you attribute your success to?
My most important factor has been to always stand out and never fit in. My brother Flaco Ruiz (RIP) was the one who got me in to the music scene and I promised him I would finish what we started 17 years ago. He is the reason why Young Chapa is still fighting for this music.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a producer/ engineer/ and a poet. I always try to interpret real life situations that people can relate to In a song. I get inspired by my parents who took a leap of faith to come to USA at a young age in hopes to make a better life for us (family). I am most proud of myself for getting out the hood and overcoming gang life and coming out of prison a new man. I found myself at my lowest point at the age of 18, but some time behind bars made me realize what was most important to me. I am proud that I am alive and not getting into trouble anymore. I got to this point in my career with the help of my brother Flaco who is no longer here with us, he is the one who paved the way for Young Chapa. I learned how to manage my business and how to communicate with others from my partner Rafe, who is a successful lawyer and I am glad I get to learn from him everyday. I’ve learned to never doubt myself and to be me! I want the world to know that young chapa is not just a rapper, I want the world to know that Chapa is an artist who paints vivid pictures with words and instruments.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to an Astros game or a Rockets game for sure. I am a huge sports junkie and always have a great time at an event. I would take them to eat at some of my favorite casual spots like Canyon Creek for a Country Iced tea and a chicken fried steak. Then I would take them to Washington Avenue for some bar hopping fun. If it were a family with children, I’d take them to Herman park and the zoo.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my best friend Rafe Aka Cool whip for always helping and supporting my dream. Also shoutout to my family for never giving up on me even at my lowest. To my DSC fam for always believing in me and hyping me up to become someone that people look up to.
