We had the good fortune of connecting with Zakiya Lateefah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zakiya, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose a creative career because it allows me to have freedom. Freedom is one of the values I prioritize the most because it gives options. Options are important with a creative career because you aren’t obligated to stay in a box. I knew at a young age that I wanted to take a creative path in life. I had no desire to be at 9-5 for the rest of my life and a creative career was so much more fitting for me and my personality.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of Facts of Life Podcast. This podcast started out as an audio diary to document my journey from New Haven, CT to Houston, TX it’s now turned into a safe haven to have transparent healthy conversations surrounding mental health, self development, relationships (romantic, friendships, business partners), entrepreneurship, and culture. I want Facts of Life Podcast to be a place for people to feel connected, supported, loved, and inspired. Facts of Life is judgement free zone and everyone is still learning so there’s no need to make anyone feel bad about it.

I got here by being as consistent as possible, it wasn’t easy because the majority of the episodes of my podcast were all created by me as the producer, host, engineer, videographer. I’ve made a lot of mistakes along this journey of being a podcaster, there’s always technical difficulties which can be extremely frustrating when you don’t have many people to lean on. I overcome the challenges by researching and trying to figure it out on my own first. If it’s something I can’t figure out then I ask for help from my peers. I’ve learned to persevere even when things don’t go the way that I had planned, I find that being honest with my Facts of Life community helps makes things easier.

I want the world to know that Facts of Life Podcast doesn’t have all the answers we’re simply a tool to help you navigate the changes of life.
