We had the good fortune of connecting with Zana Muscove and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zana, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Over time, I’ve learned that self care is essential to a healthier work life balance. For years, I thought that success meant being the hardest working employee and always putting my family first. Even if this meant sacrificing the things that I love, things that bring me joy or contribute to my calling. I was putting everyone else’s needs before my own. As a result, I was exhausted, overworked, overweight and downright unhappy. During the pandemic, when we were all forced to sit down. I had the opportunity to reflect and reevaluate my life. I realize now that my children need to see me at my best and by me taking time to rest, I have been able to focus on the Creative Artist that I was called to be. Prioritizing my love for writing, spoken word, dance and theater has increased my energy level, creativity and overall joy. I have more energy when I’m with my family and most of all, I have inner peace.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a writer, producer and performing artist. What sets me apart is the ability to stay relevant, and relatable while telling stories that inspire hope, change, and advocacy. I’m most proud of staying true to my artistry, even when sensitive and controversial topics are discussed. The hardest battle is in the mind. Once I was able to shift away from the stinking thinking and fear, I was finally able to walk in the self confidence and utilize the gifts that God has blessed me.
Lessons learned are: Everything you need to be successful, is already inside of you. you just have to manifest it.
I want the world to know that my brand is a collection of lived experiences- a true reflection of resilience

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would get a room at the Domain for a few days- do a little shopping, catch a comedy show at Capital City Comedy Club and then party afterwards on RockRose, We would also go to the Austin FC game, and hit up some Karaoke bars. Mid week, we’d bbq and play some games in the park of choice, visit the Kalahari. For brunch we’d have breakfast tacos and a midweek Brunch. For rest and relaxation, We would get mani/pedi’s at Golden Nail Lounge and Massages and Massage Heights. We would visit the Oasis and spend a night at Vintage Villas, perhaps try some ziplining while we were in the area. To close out the week we’d have a lit house party back at my house, watch the game and have good catered food from Pluckers.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a huge shout out to God (My ultimate provider): for giving me visions of creativity, equipping me with the skills needed to be the best I can be, and the grace to let it all come to fruition. My family: for all of their support, encouragement, patience and flexibility as I begin to walk in my calling,

My Mother: who always tells me to “Manifest” and “Believe in myself”

The 2020 Pandemic: For forcing me to slowdown, reflect and reevaluate.
