We had the good fortune of connecting with Zelma Hughes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zelma, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I found something that I really loved doing, and realized I could make money doing it. My parents were restaurant owners in the late seventies. So it almost feels like I’m paying homage to them as well.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Actually I started off cooking for co workers, friends, and family. I asked them to critique me, and I went from there. My first start with my business was “Meal Prepping”. I was not satisfied with that so I went back to the drawing board, but the great thing from starting there was that I created an extensive amount of dishes that I know sale. One of my mottos is “I cook with love”. No matter how big or small I want everything you eat to be a great memory. I give my best effort with every client. I’m a stickler on details and delivery. You one chance to make a first impression.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well for one I’d definitely do a lot of the cooking, but first stop for me would be “The Post”. There is a vast amount of restaurants so we could try so many different things and it just an entire vibe there. From there honestly we would bounce around mid town and third ward. There are limitless food spots, bars, and clubs.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Parents. They are no longer here, but they are my driving force to keep going in such a saturated field.
