We had the good fortune of connecting with Mr. Shamrock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mr., why did you pursue a creative career?
Music has always been an outlet for me, the creative process from making music, writing, down to recording and performing live helps me illustrate my art.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I built my first studio at my mother’s home in 2004 with the closet as the booth. Created my Record label (Green Leaf Records) in 2005 started writing and recording. Then I bought my home in 2006 and built my own music studio in which I stared recording other artist with all walks of life, which really helped me to discover the craft (Production, Engineer). Nothing about this career choice has been easy, when you are self-taught trial and error go hand in hand. being okay with starting over has to be in your character. I’ve learned you cannot trust everyone with your best intentions and scared money don’t make money. Invest in yourself. Culture Shift Challenge was born a media company where we inspire artist to raise the bar on themselves as we feel the music industry is rigged, we would like to give independent artist opportunities they otherwise wouldn’t have. We built Kraken Music Hall this year for artist to showcase their craft. It’s a venue where CSC alongside Mr. Shamrock will be hosting contest for artist and musicians. My love for music has been greater than just my own, my heart is too big to keep it all to myself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Rock and Roll Sushi to get some good grub. I would take them to The Grow Room to meet Morgan Roberts then we would check out some local music so we might go to Scout Bar on the southside or BFE Rock club on the northside. I would definitely take them to the Kraken Music Hall to see all we been working on (new music, new artist). They would need to check out the Japanese Garden downtown as well as the mural Art all over the city. Since the culture here is so vast, we would check out authentic Mexican food place or some southern BBQ before they had to departure.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I’d like to thank everyone that believed in me. Specifically, my mother Katt Harper for always telling me to go for your dreams. My Ol friend Chubbs Malone for being a studio mentor for so many years. My high school friend Kevin B. for encouraging me to pursue hip-hop. My cousin Alex MacDonald for helping me make my dreams a reality. Lastly, I’d like to thank God for giving me the Perserverance to not give up.
