Hi Melissa Lee, why did you pursue a creative career?
We became Rootless Destinations after almost 30 years of exploring lost and the forgotten Historical locations, Wanting to remember and preserve these locations we decided to share with our community. Using photography and videography we have been able to tell the stories of the abandoned, historical and forgotten places.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We have always wondered what secrets may be hidden in the great State of Texas. When we decided to share our adventures with the community, knowing where to start was a challenge. We received our first video cameras from a close friend, who then taught us the basics of camera use and video editing. Once we mastered our equipment, we created Rootless Destinations social media accounts to share our stories with our community. We are proud that we are able to share the history and beauty of the state of Texas.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Buffalo Bayou has a cistern tour then we would go to a hidden 165 year old burial vault under a bridge in Downton Houston
Houston has many artistic sites to visit like; Smithers Park and right around the corner is the Orange Show house.
Historical Cemeteries; Glenwood, Olivewood, Magnolia and settlers are a must for sharing the history of Houston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course we have the support of our family, friends and our dear community, but if it was not for one close friend we may not be where we are today. A few years back we had a friend suggest we start filming our explorers and historical walks to share with others. He gave us our first 2 cameras and showed us how to use them as well as train us on the editing software. Because of that type of friendship and support we are able to share our stories with all to enjoy.
