We had the good fortune of connecting with Source and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Source, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Inspiration for me can come from anywhere and anyone.

But mostly I am inspired by other art and my daughters.

I love scrolling social media and seeing/hearing something beautiful.

Whether it is someone playing the piano, a poet reciting their latest sonnet with conviction, or simply hearing a song that I love; I am inspired by art. It hits my eyes/ears and can lead me to a different place.

My daughters are everything I could ever want them to be. And the efforts they put forth to fulfill their individual pursuits leave me in awe.

I could not wish for more from them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For me, as well as many others, hip hop is a lifestyle…a culture. And what I am doing now is the result of me being a part of it.

I was once an artist. Being an mc (or any type of artist) is never easy, and I didn’t ascend to the heights I had hoped in that realm.

But my love for hip hop never wavered.

So I have always had my ear to the street as far as the music, and I’ve always been involved.

From writing articles to blogs to podcasts…and now creating content with the music as the featured material.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not much of a “goer” but I do love a good meal.

And my city has been at the forefront of the “places to visit” lists in recent history.

So I’d show friends the places where the 2020 protests took place, the places where Confederate statues once stood but have now been removed, maybe a trip to the beach or to DC (each less than 2 hours away), and we would definitely visit some of the specialty restaurants in my city. From Downtown to the outskirts of town, we love good food around here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to send a big shoutout and salute to the hip hop community; specifically, the classic hip hop community.

Our favorite artists, groups, songs, experiences, etc. will never be forgotten because we will not allow time or the opinions of outsiders to dictate our place in this world of music.
