We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiona Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiona, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from a small town in East Texas and when I was a kid I couldn’t wait to move out of that little town and live in a city. It didn’t take long after moving to the city that I missed the slow pace, stars in the sky, lighting bugs and small town charm. It represents everything I am as a Country Artist.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved to sing and encourage others. I sang at church in my small town and would always find ways to encourage others by words of encourage, writing letters or curling their hair. I never once thought about singing or encouraging on a bigger level. It was just in my DNA to sing in daddy’s pickup truck and encourage. When I felt the tug to start writing songs for the first time it completely blindsided me. But I wanted to know why my Heavenly Father was asking me to do this. So, at the age of 35 I began writing and now I have written over 75 songs and 12+ of those songs are out digitally wherever you stream music. The one scripture that has encouraged me since day one of the journey is Romans 11:29 Your gifts and callings are irrevocable. It’s never to late and my story is a testament to that. What sets me apart is there is so much purpose in my songs. The only reason I began writing was because of the tug on my heart too. So, I am very intentional about what I write and its always comes from a place of encouragement and love. I think that is what sets me apart. I call my music Holy Country. Country music with faith sprinkled in it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take her to Music City, Nashville. It’s my home away from home. I would take her to White Limozen, the prettiest rooftop I ever been on. Then I would take her to the Listening Room for an incredible show of local singer songwriters sharing their original songs. We would have to visit Broadway and eat at Casa Rosa, Miranda Lamberts, restaurant. It’s the best Tex-Mex in Nashville. We would catch a show at the Ryman so she can see the stained glass from the inside listening to our favorite Band. Last but not least we would walk down Broadway one more time because you have to see Broadway at night and all its lights.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shout out to my Heavenly Father who tugged on my heart and nudged me to start writing songs at the age of 35. I also want to thank my family and friends who have supported me through the process of discovering this gift and growing it over the last 7 years. To all the artist who I have meet along the way that support me as well, y’all are like family. Love you all so much.
