We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Freeman Roth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work life balance has changed drastically over the last 25 years! When I first began my career in television news in my 20s, I had unlimited hours to dedicate to work. I really think I personally needed that time through my 20s when I didn’t have children and I was single to really learn and focus on my craft. Today 25 years later, I have five children and a husband and I just don’t have the hours to devote to work. However, I have learned to work smarter and optimize the hours that my children are in school or napping to create and build my YouTube channel and social media outlets.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
After spending 25 years as a television news anchor, I went out on my own in November to begin focusing on my passion of health, wellness, parenting and beauty. I create YouTube and social media videos on these topics offering advice via interviews with experts, book reviews, personal stories, and uplifting testimonies from people on the right track. I am fortunate to have the background of video production, editing, writing, interviewing and presenting. It is a very fun and synergistic project for me because I get to combine my past experience with my current passions.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our museum district is so impressive! We love the Museum of Natural Science with their amazing dinosaur display! Houston has some of the best food in the country! We love Tonys for upscale dining with their delightful pastas and fish. We always take friends and family to Armando’’s in the Upper Kirby Area for the city’s best enchiladas!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, I am so fortunate to be surrounded by encouraging entrepreneurs! My dad, my mother and my husband are all business owners. My husband, Dr Forrest Roth owns his own plastic surgery practice located in the heart of River Oaks. He really thought outside of the box and crafted a unique and successful business. My dad lives and works in rural west Texas where he owns a real estate company. My mother started a preschool when I was a small child and still owns that today.
