We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Hollander and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My whole life I’ve been a creator. I’ve always thrived in art classes and decided to pursue a Bachelors of Fine Arts. I feel like I’m able to use my creative energy by doing different types of photo sessions (seniors, weddings, babies, families etc) and every day is a little different- I’m never bored! I love that I get to plan my sessions and that a vision can become a reality in the end product and image.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a professional photographer and have been shooting professionally for over 16 years! The road is never easy when you’re building a business and a brand (and a family!) and I’ve had plenty of setbacks. We have moved states 4 times and I’ve learned a lot along the way about marketing myself, web design, and back end work. I have loved meeting other local creatives in each state that I’ve lived. It’s great to have other like-minded people to bounce ideas off of. I definitely believe in community over competition. I try to be an open book with others and am excited to start mentoring other photographers in 2023! I want others to know that it is possible to have a successful business, whether you’re just starting or moving locations. It takes a lot of hustle and commitment, but if you put in the hard work, the results will come.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit the area I would take them to some local restaurants in Montgomery, such as the Cozy Grape or Pizza Shack. I would take them to see Lake Conroe and definitely out to eat for some Tex-Mex. We love Lupe Tortilla and many other local restaurants. I think the state forest off of 1488 is a gorgeous spot to walk or hike. I would visit The Woodlands and walk around the Waterway, eat at the Black Walnut Cafe. If it was rodeo season, I would definitely make the trip to downtown Houston to experience all the food, fun and music that is the Houston Rodeo! Houston’s gulf coast is a great getaway as well; we’ve visited Port Aransas and Galveston!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband is my biggest cheerleader and has been with me every step of the way! We have moved states several times for his job, and therefore, I’ve started my business over multiple times. He’s always my biggest encourager.
