We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason D’Errico and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to create an additional stream of income to experience financial freedom for my family. I decided to leverage my expertise in finance and Microsoft Excel to solve a problem for small business owners. This is when I found a need for financial modeling and providing financial insights for businesses on various freelance websites. I pursued a financial consulting business that creates custom financial models, modeling templates and provides financial analysis for small businesses.

What should our readers know about your business?
One thing that I am most proud of with my business is that the majority of my financial knowledge has been self-taught. This gets me excited about everything else that I can learn as I gain more experience in the industry. It is great to deliver a product to a client that is exactly what they were looking for and they saved time (and frustration) by hiring an expert to do it. The road to where I am today has not been easy, it took many long nights and mistakes as I built my business to a point where I felt comfortable going full-time. Since I have gone full-time, I have had to not only learn more about my craft, but also about running a business. I am more confident as a financial consultant as well as a business owner through my successes and failures.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I could pick any time of the year to show someone around the city, it would definitely be during rodeo season. There is nothing else quite like experiencing the rodeo and you don’t have to be a Texan to enjoy it. Going to the rodeo, witnessing a concert and experiencing some of the food there encapsulates what Houston, Texas is all about. There are many places that I have not had the chance to experience, but some other interesting things have been an orchestra performance at Jones Hall, an Astros game, and multiple great neighborhoods lit up during Christmas time. You also can’t go wrong with the food here with the cultural diversity in Houston, but you have to try the BBQ.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe much of my success to my wife, Laura. I would not be where I am in my business without her love, encouragement and support. She, along with my children, motivate me to push myself to new heights to create the life we have always dreamed of.
