We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Arrambide and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, how do you think about risk?
I believe risks are essential for growth, in not only business but in life. If you’re not taking risks in your life or business, you’re not going to grow or change. Even though risks can be scary at times, especially depending on the degree of the risk or the situation that may surround the risk it’s important to “just go for it” to help you grow and develop into a better version of you. Risk taking always ends up in success in my eyes, especially if you have the right mindset. A mindset of no matter what things are going to work out. A mindset where even if something ends up not working out how you expected it will still be a win because you would have learned a lesson from that failure which in turn is a positive because you will have more knowledge the next time you try. I believe that if life had no risks in it yes it would be technically safer, but man would it be boring. My company started as a huge risk: a risk to jump out of my comfort zone, a financial risk, and an all-around risk for my family. My company is the brainchild of my husband and mine, it was something we talked about for years but never had a concrete plan of when /how/where we were going to go for it. In my eyes this was something we would do in the future once our kids were older and we had a better control of life. So, believe me when I say I was terrified when we signed the lease on our location within one week of seeing it. Our daughters where only 2 and 3 at the time, the pandemic was still in full swing, and I had been a full time stay at home mom for the past 3 years. I didn’t know if we were ready to take on the challenge and believe me when I tell you I almost told my husband “no” when he first floated the full idea past me a week before signing our lease, but something in my soul just told me to go for it, that everything will figure itself out as you go along.
But now 2 years in and I’m so glad I jumped into this adventure with both feet even though my head was telling me that you’re not ready I knew it was going to be worth getting over the fear. And don’t get me wrong at least once a week I get scared with either a new project or new challenge, but I like to remind myself that these are the challenges that are going to make me into an even better version of myself in the future.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m the owner of Juliet Harper Kitchens, a kitchen and bathroom remodeling company located in Spring, Texas. We specialize in the fabrication and installation of natural stone (granite, quartzite, marble, soapstone) as well as quartz countertops. We carry all the top quartz brands, Cambria, Silestone, Hanstone, Viatera, Vadara, and import our natural stone from all over the world. We can help with simple countertop installs for the DIYER who just needs a bit of help, too full kitchen remodels with custom cabinets, waterfall islands, and floors. We also sup specialize in bathroom remodels, outdoor kitchens, and we also can fabricate and install countertops on commercial properties. What makes us different from other companies is that you don’t need to hire us for everything. If you want to install your own backsplash and just need us to help with the countertops, we can do that for you. If you already have a contractor, interior designer, or fabricator and just need to purchase the material, we can facilitate that as well. No job is to big or to small for us. We just love to give clients tips and tricks on how to make things more cost effective for them during the remodel process, because as homeowners ourselves we know it can be hard to not only schedule but also finance remodels. Our main concern not only as business owners but as remodelers in general is making sure our client feels heard and is happy at all times. We are here to help our clients every step of the way through the process of finding the perfect countertop material in the perfect design to quickly installing their kitchen so they can get back to their life. Now it’s not always unicorns and rainbows being a small business owner but what I have realized is that the only thing that you can control is your own outlook. So, when things go left, we just pivot and go right and keep doing that until it all works out.
I got to where I am by taking risks and just jumping into each opportunity even if I’m nervous of the outcome. Ever since my husband and I opened this business 2 years ago we have had many up and down moments but just knowing in my heart that what I’m doing is something great helps me get through those uncertain times. it also helps when you finish a client’s house and seeing the pure happiness on their face that makes all the stress and worry worth it. Was the journey to were i am worth it? So, was the journey hard? YES! But if you don’t do hard things, you won’t grow into the best version of yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely start off the day at Tout Suit by Minute Maid Park for delicious brunch of Chicken and Waffles with a fresh squeezed orange juice. Then go to the museum district for a stroll around the Houston Museum of Fine Arts for a few hours to take in their amazing collection of French Impressionist and maybe see their latest interactive exhibit. Then a light lunch on the patio at Empire Cafe off of Westemeier before we do some retail therapy around The River Oaks area. Before dinner we would get some cocktails at the best mixology bar in Houston Anvil, then go to Brennans on The Bayou for turtle soup and Steak before an evening out on the town. I personally enjoy the museum and river oaks district the most inside Houston. Those areas are just filled with so many great restaurants, museums, parks and bars.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel like there are more than a few people that are pivotal to my success not only in my life but in my business as well. Without the love and support of my Mother I wouldn’t be the strong and resilient women I am today. Also, my in-laws have been a huge part of the growth in our business with their support and assistance in helping build Juliet Harper Kitchens from the ground up. I truly don’t know how I would get through the uncertainty of being a business owner without my amazing girl friends who from day 1 have told me that “I’m going to do great” and “the business will be a success; I just know it”. Without their unconditional support and constant motivation, I wouldn’t be able to get through the tough times as a business owner. I also couldn’t do it without my extended family of Brothers, Aunts, Uncles, and Grandparents, they are always there to offer advice and give positive support for me and my family. I couldn’t forget my two biggest cheerleaders and motivators my daughters Juliet and Harper. They are always there giving me strength and reminding me that I’m a queen that can do anything. But most of all I wouldn’t be where I am without my husband Gian. Since the age of 16 he has been my biggest cheerleader, supporter, and all-around rock. Someone who has always believed in me, even when I didn’t know there was anything to believe in. He is always there for me to bounce all my crazy ideas and thoughts off at without any judgement. Without him i can honestly say I wouldn’t be the person I am today. He truly brings out the best version of me.
