We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelley Dailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelley, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When developing Selfish Beauty Spa, my partners and I wanted to bring an experience to Baltimore that we hadn’t seen here before. We wanted a young fun & fly spa, where everyone is treated like family! We visited spa’s throughout our travels and took notes on everything we loved. We felt that the vibe we offer at Self.ish has been missing in Baltimore.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business (my baby) is Self.ish beauty spa! Located in Pikesville, MD. We offer a variety of beauty services from nails, facials, hair & so much more! I am the owner along with my two partners Janeen Simon & Keisha McClain. Before anything else I think our look sets us apart from any other business like ours! We gathered information from our many travels around the world to bring a spa experience to Baltimore that couldn’t be found anywhere else. I would have to say I’m personally most proud of our growth since opening. Within three months of opening our doors we were shut down completely due to covid! devastating. This was a major learning opportunity. No matter how much you plan for a rainy day, you never truly know whats around the corner. I want the world to know the Self.ish brand is here to stay!!! so get ready lol. Baltimore will always be our first love but we are so excited for what new cities the future holds!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Baltimore for a week, we would no doubt start our adventure at Self.ish for glamming. Lash extensions for the week would be a must, and a mani/pedi. I would book us a hotel room at Sagamore Pendry so we can enjoy everything downtown has to offer. After we spend the day tanning at the pool, we would hit BLK Swan for dinner, black owned and located on Fleet St. Followed by a late night trip to horseshoe casino. Since Washington DC is so close, we would finish our trip with a few days there. Luxury shopping in city center, followed by a Washington Wizards game, then a late night dinner at The Park at 14th!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My journey in life would absolutely not be complete without the support of my entire family. They are my village, they have supported me since day one, whether my decisions were admirable or just plain dumb. I’m thankful for them, and I hope they know it! Family is a blessing that should never be taken for granted.
