We had the good fortune of connecting with Beatitude Olufemi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beatitude, how do you think about risk?
I love taking risks. It’s always been so natural for me. Risk taking has played such an important role in my life and career. It has allowed me to understand the importance of failure. You have to fail to succeed, there is no way around it. The lessons I have learned from taking risks in life, whether the outcome was good or bad is what has made me who I am today. I can definitely say I am much wiser and also more aware of which risks are worth taking, so I would not change that for anything.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a content creator, makeup artist, photographer, wardrobe stylist and a full time Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA). I do it all and I truly love what I do. By day, I enjoy being a full time SLPA and working with school age children to improve their speech. After that, I get in my zone as a creative and it is the best thing ever! Being a creative has always been something I have loved and it makes me very happy. I love taking pictures and showing off my style while promoting for brands and helping their business grow. I have been blessed to work with major brands such as Pretty Little Thing, Oh Polly, Skims, Simmishoes, IconSwim, Meshki and so on! I enjoy taking photos of other people as well, the results are always amazing and I can truly say I am proud of how far I’ve come with perfecting that craft. Makeup and fashion are my main creative outlets. I started doing makeup on other people back in 2016 and eventually took it more seriously and professionally in 2019. My makeup journey wasn’t easy especially moving from New York City where I am from to now having to build a whole new clientele in Houston, Texas where I currently reside. However I have really put an effort in investing in myself by taking classes, booking models and really just learning the game on another level. I recently just got into wardrobe styling [@stylindemand] and styled some of my friends, family, and coworkers and it has absolutely fueled my passion for fashion immensely. I believe my style sets me apart from others because of my ability to put unique pieces and colors together that your average person would not do. This all goes back to the importance of taking risks especially when it comes to fashion. The goal is to always set the trends, never follow them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first place we would definitely have to go is Lotus seafood because well who doesn’t love a good seafood boil. Then we would go for dessert probably frozen yogurt at PinkBerry and just catch up on life. I love a good heart to heart moment. We would have to go to brunch at Snooze or maybe Bosscat Kitchen for their fruity pebble French toast. And of course we would take lots of pictures because what’s an outing without pictures to remember these moments right? As far as fun things to do, we would definitely go to Galleria mall for a bit of shopping, Railway heights market, Color factory, and also K1 speed for go karts/racing. A dinner at Joey Uptown is also a must, the food and ambience is just chef’s kiss.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, I have to shoutout God before anyone else because I am literally nothing without him! My journey has most definitely been an uphill battle but by the grace, favor, and mercy of God I have been able to overcome several obstacles and accomplish a lot of the things I have today. No matter the disappointments or hardships I face, I know that when I call on his name, God will always be there for me ready to pick me back up to keep going. I also have to shoutout my immediate support system: my mom, my sister Love, my partner Dami, and my best friend Alicia. I have a few friends who have also been very supportive over the years and I am so grateful for each and every single one of them. They have inspired me so much and also encourage me daily to keep persevering.
