We had the good fortune of connecting with Marrie Irakarama and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marrie, what’s your definition for success?
Defining success to me is looking back to where I am from, where I was born and where I am today. It doesn’t necessarily mean I have everything I want or Need, but looking how far I’ve come and everything I’ve been through to get where I am today lets me know I am on the road to success. I am successful in some parts of my life because I was strong enough to never let things I’ve endured define who I am today and write my story. Success to me, is seeing the growth I’ve done throughout my life journey. It’s setting goals, and checking them off one by one, whether it takes two days or a year,  it’s getting things done.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a creator who enjoys getting involved in cool projects, and teaming with other creatives to create content for the people. I’ve been featured in music videos, blogs, fashion shows, youtube videos, and other creative contents. As a model and as a fitness coach I’ve run into a few obstacles, each time I take the time I need to regroup and try again.  I am super proud of how far I’ve come and how I’ve managed to pass every obstacle life threw at me to get where I am today. I am excited to announce my soon to launch Virtual Assistant business, Dejavu Virtual Assist, Also known as DVA.  I will be providing General Administrative, Social Media Management, and Email Management Services. Our website is currently up and live at www.dejavuva.com check us out for your Virtual Assistant needs!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I recently just moved to Houston, and so far I would go to Lost and Found for some food and drinks. I am a low-key person majority of the time so I prefer to hang out inside, drink some wine and enjoy the calm peaceful space. I love working out, and being outside in nature so I would definitely have us somewhere in nature outside. You can never go wrong with the nightlife in Houston though.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my oldest brother, and my previous social workers as well as the supportive friends I have and or have had in my life. To everyone who has contributed to my growth in any form or way in my life. To the real ones, we are forever locked in!
