We had the good fortune of connecting with Desirae Maldonado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desirae, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As busy moms and wives, we wear so many hats! I’ve been in the hair industry for more than 15 years, but when I decided to create Desirae Hair and open my own salon, I wanted everyone who stepped foot inside to have a safe space for that much-needed self care. If you don’t take care of yourself, how can you take care of anyone else? That was a question I even had to ask myself at one point, so I made it my goal to create a space where clients would leave feeling “lighter” and inspired to do more good. I love helping people, and spreading positivity with every conversation gives me the motivation I need to keep going. Each appointment provides the client with an experience unlike any other. We offer hot teas, diffuse essential oils and are conscious of what products we use and recommend, offering low-tox options whenever possible.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I specialize in color, blondes and extensions, however what I’m most proud of is the deep connections I form with my clients. A few years ago I went through a challenging health journey, and I feel like it truly changed me as a person. By putting in the work to heal my own body, I’ve been able to share what I’ve learned with everyone who sits in my chair. There’s a direct connection between the health of our hair and our overall health, so I do my best to seek out and offer organic/ low-tox products, etc. to help lessen the burden on our bodies.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank everyone I’ve met along the way. Each and every client who has graciously allowed me to use my talents on them, has in turn inspired me to do and be better. I’m always learning so that I can provide the absolute best service possible. I’d also like to thank my family for the love and unending support from day one.
