We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Salazar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenny, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I love working for myself and being hands-on in both the creative and business aspects. There are a lot of categories I photograph in, but I choose to eliminate some so I can perfect my craft in specific areas. For example, I shoot all entertainment, fashion, marketing, and portraits. I don’t offer wedding photography just because that’s not only another ball game, but it has little similarity to what I specialize in.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an artist, I strive to capture the aesthetic and mood of the atmosphere. I specialize in candid shots and creative editing. I love capturing organic photos, high energy, and a nice contrast.

I worked hard and constantly adjusted throughout the years based on the economy, building clientele, exceeding expectations, educating myself, and putting myself out there.

Along the way, I’ve learned that communication is vital, never stop going above and beyond for clients, challenge yourself, stay humble, and remember you can learn something new from anyone, change with the times, and don’t give up because you make mistakes it’s part of life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s so much to do in New Orleans lol! I’d have split it up into different parts of the city, so I’ll do the quarter and Frenchman St.

French Quarter- Walk around Jackson Square for the art vendors, Voodoo store, cathedral, and street performers. You also have to get a look at the riverfront and stop by Cafe Dumond for the beignets, you have to take home some fudge and pralines (there’s so many stores I love to choose from that are located in the quarter) and pass by the french market, Royal Street and Bourbon Street.

Another fantastic city area is Frenchman St. (hopefully, you go when the brass bands play on the street). That’s where you go for a street full of jazz music and to buy some art at the market. My favorite late night on Frenchman is Dat Dog; I get the crawfish special.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The person that’s pushed me to start my own business is my father. He has a company, and I’ve seen how much independence and value it can offer you. I also have my loved ones to thank for their encouragement and support.
