We had the good fortune of connecting with Shay Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shay, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I am a creative. After the idea popped into my head to start a sleepover business years ago; I immediately started to think of what I could personally bring to the table. I decided to focus on things I already knew how to do or had some experience in doing such as graphics, prop making and photography & use it to elevate what was already being done. I started doing things that not many people in my industry were doing such as making custom, personalized pillowcases, matching tray liners and centerpieces to match each theme. We also have the largest selection of colorful teepees in the industry so we can match every possible detail including teepee colors to customers desired theme. I can be a bit matchy matchy but the clients who hire me seem to love those big details. My ability to craft diy items & use graphic design definitely gave my sleepovers an edge and I quickly became a trendsetter in my industry, even using my talents to help other companies like mine around the globe. My unique setups helped my brand and others like it stand out from the crowd.
What should our readers know about your business?
Muscles and Lace Arrangements is my creative outlet. I started out like everyone else, going through pintrest boards, search images and trying to figure out where I would get inventory money from. Today, I hardly ever search for ideas & I use my creativity in the form of custom bedding and custom colored teepees to bankroll any inventory that I purchase. I consider myself a trendsetter so most of the things I come up with are fresh & new. It’s not easy trying to always top yourself but I guarantee it’s so much fun! However my detailed nature can sometimes get overwhelming so I’ve learned to really pace myself and I love it when my clients give me plenty of time to execute my/their vision. My custom slumber parties are my most treasured. Those are the ones I get when a customer calls me with an idea that they are thinking of. I can execute any theme and I only wish I had more of those calls.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh gosh this is hard because I’m somewhat of a homebody when I’m not decorating someone’s home with a teepee setup. However, I think I would take them to the Heights area for some shopping & end up in North Houston for some great BBQ. If they are a beastie of mine, they are probably also a creative and I would definitely be taking them to the local 99cent only stores in search of hidden and cheap decor that can be added to any event. I love the graffiti walls downtown for awesome picture taking and that artist park near the same area. On Thursdays, line dance class with The Royal Court in Pearland would definitely be on the schedule. I’m sure my friends would enjoy all of those things.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to take this time to shoutout to my mother, Cheryl Williams. For years, I helped her elevate her brand, company and name to a status that gained us the privilege to be featured on shows & networks such as The Today Show, The CW and The Steve Harvey Show. As her manager, we worked with artists all over the world. She was known as The Line Dance Queen (with over 30,000 subies on YouTube & probably about a billion views+ now). However in the summer of 2021, she found out that she had stage 3 cancer that spread to many parts of her body. She had to stop teaching her line dance class & working in general. In order to keep busy, she stated helping me with my setups when she had the energy or coming over to do a little baby sitting if I didn’t need her that day. Her desire to somewhat pay me back for all those years of hardwork while being a huge supporter, definitely deserves a shoutout. Mom will always be my Line Dance Queen forever more. 💗 I also want to make sure to give a special shoutout to my assistant Belma Pagan who helps me with my larger parties and also my driver and backup assistant Mike Hamilton. They make the work I do on-site so much faster & easier.
