We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylan Maree and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kylan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
“I fell in love with YouTube and social media during the pandemic. It was the start of my social media career, and we were all in lockdown. To keep myself busy, I would dress up in cute outfits, take pictures on my parents’ back porch, and post them on Instagram. I had seen my favorite YouTubers do this all the time, and it was something that helped pass the time. Now, it’s been four years, and I do content creating full-time for myself and other brands. I love what I do and feel grateful for the opportunities that have come my way.”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This industry is just as crowded as any other. In the past, it was easier to gain popularity and grow your platform. However, these days, it seems like everyone is a content creator or involved in social media in some way. Nevertheless, I believe that this competition motivates me to stand out since that’s all you can do. Although I never intended to go viral or make money from this, it has now become my livelihood and to have a successful brand, you need to be adaptable and pivot when necessary.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Although I come from a small town, I consider myself a city girl at heart. I love the city I reside in. My favorite place to go is Lombardi Cucina Italiana Restaurant, which offers the best Italian food in Houston, TX. On Saturdays, they have a speakeasy, which is essentially a secret room where people can hang out. I’m also a big fan of Nobu and have always wanted to try it out in the Galleria area, so definitely would have to take my girls there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I attribute all my accomplishments to God and my mother. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities God has bestowed upon me. My mother has been my number-one supporter from the start of my career. She has driven me to shoots, helped me with content, and even paid for things to help me excel in my career. Despite not fully understanding what I do, she has always been supportive of my choices.
