We had the good fortune of connecting with Emerald O’Bryant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emerald, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
As a mother of now two beautiful girls I have learned to not allow my childhood traumas to affect my children or the relationship I have with them. By healing old childhood wounds you then in return create a space for your children to be just what they are , children. As my girls grow older to one day become adults and parents I would want my healing to impact them by the way that they love and care for their own families.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the small business owner of an inflatable outdoor movie company called Emerald City outdoor movies. We provide our clients with a luxury outdoor movie experience like no other. My clients are provided with an inflatable movie screen to watch a movie of their choice. Depending on the package of their choosing it can include: inflatable seating, a HD projector, a 4k streaming device, a Bluetooth speaker for quality sound, and a concession can be added for an additional charge.

Although there are many outdoor movie businesses around town my business is different due to our diligent service of quality care and detail. Whether it’s a movie set up for a graduation party, a sleep over, or just a simple movie night I always ask my clients , “What’s the special occasion?” I ask because from there I can know how to set the tone of the night with added decor or small thank you gifts for their support. We are also flexible with the weather and our screens can be used for indoor events as well.

I am most proud that this is a business that allows for families to be able to spend quality time together. Our motto is , there’s no time like family time. And that is why I got into this business. With my husband being an Active duty service member time means everything to us. I wanted to start something that would allow me to both work and spend time with my family. This is a business based on the involvement of family and friends gathering and socializing and I take pride in that.

As my business continues to grow I have learned that there will be mistakes but it is okay because mistakes can be corrected. Along the way I’ve also learned that not everyone will like what my platform or business provides, but there are people who absolutely love what I do and will show their support no matter what.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestie was coming to town we would definitely have to hit up Max’s wine and dive for their delicious greens and fried chicken. I love that place. I for sure would have to take her by the galleria to do a little shopping, and then we would swing by Triple Js smokehouse for some goooood bbq. I’m talking food for days!! We would check out a few brunch spots around the area like Chapman and Kirby, Grace’s, and Phil & Derek’s just to name a few. In between our down time we would have to swing over to Porky’s Backyard to indulge in the vibrant food truck scene. I would also take her around the historical 3rd ward area to see how the African American community past and present has helped to make Houston’s culture what it is today . If the Texans were in season we would definitely go to a Texans game or even an Astros game.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to my wonderful husband Derek. Thank you for being supportive of my entrepreneurial endeavors. No matter the idea he has always been down for the ride and I appreciate him willing to take this journey with me. I would also like to thank my family and friends who have been supportive with my outdoor movie business. Thanks for the simple ideas, photos/content, setup, and everything in between. You all are greatly appreciated.
