We had the good fortune of connecting with Camila Cohen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Camila, what do you want people to remember about you?
I don’t think I strive for a legacy exactly, living my life as the person I am has come with its ups and downs that have taught me so much, and if someday it gets to be a legacy that makes others relate and feel something, then that’s wonderful. Although I do wish to be remembered once my time is up, I don’t really mind the amount of people as long as what’s remembered of me is full of the moments I’m most proud of. I’d like the story of how I grew up and how eager I am to live the life I want to be told, maybe in a memoir one day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most excited for the friendships I’ll make throughout my career, how much I’ll be learning from everyone around me. Hearing other people’s stories and finding new perspective intrigues me. Growing up I’d write and make short films either on my own or with kids I knew. From making films, to photo shoots, then exploring the world around. My childhood wasn’t exactly the awesomest, but I never let it hold me back because I had many passions and way too much drive to be stuck thinking about what I went through. I did give myself time to process it and understand why things happened, so it wouldn’t be something I’d revisit and cry over. I learnt to be independent from a very young age, I got myself everything I needed or wanted. People would even think I was a rich and spoiled kid without knowing that I wasn’t given much but had to go get it. Making all sorts of art is what I crave the most, I want to continue acting and eventually work on productions with producers and writers whose work I love. Industry wise, I wouldn’t say I’m deep in there yet, but with everything I’ve done and continue doing in order to get there, I’d say I’m a bit proud of myself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends from out of state come to visit, I always love to take them out to concerts and places around the city I found out about through taking random metro buses to see where’d I’d end up. Walking on Polk Street in Greater Eastwood might seem like such a lame thing at first but it’s so nice, especially at night time, while everyone’s porch lights are on and you get to see every single house and how each and everyone’s got an entirely different look to it. You could go from seeing the most pastel and cute house to seeing a witch like house right next to it, the drastic changes are outstanding to me. It makes me think about the different people that live in those homes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Someone that’s been there for me through disgusting times in my life would be my cousin Mari, she’s got the sweetest most genuine soul. I’d say she’s one of the only people I’d do anything for.
