We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Gentle Grooming! Honesty, patience, kindness, and love! Grooming should be for the sheer love of it. Taking the heart of grooming back to the root.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been grooming since I was 16 years old. Finding other jobs along the way, yet always grooming on the side to find balance; my zen sorta speak. No; it wasn’t easy! I worked hard, paid my dues for sure! I learned what I didn’t like, and what I loved. Working Mom & Pop, Corporate, and Mobile Salons. It drove me crazy rushing a pet through a groom, so I can get more pets in and out of my doors to make the money to make my quota and keep my job. Watching things happen that could have been prevented. So, after some push from clients and my family Wicked Pawz was born! I wanted to get back to what grooming use to be about. Gentle, Patient, Compassionate, Humanity over Vanity, Kindness, Loving, Nurturing, Teaching, and having fun is what grooming is all about! It takes time to teach a Furbaby to groom, and it takes even more time to undue a trauma of grooming that may have happened in their past grooming life. So, I make it a point to treat all Furrbabies just like they are mine while they are with me! We come to the home and are In-Home Groomers. We bond and build trust, and likewise with all my Pet Parents. I try to remember this Spaw Day isn’t about me! It’s their day! All of this is what makes Wicked Pawz so different.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First of all; Texas in general is one of the most amazing places regardless. If they were here for a week. We could do a day in Houston and hit Galveston, then make our way to Down Town Houston to the Turkey Leg Hut is one of my favs annd is sooo amazing! The music and staff are all great. Then we could take a trip to Fredericksburg and go on a wine tasting journey. Then cruse up to Austin and go wild & free. Maybe finish our week and take a mini drive over to San Antonio to the River Walk, and chill at the Zawa Hotel.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
100% to my family! Supporting my dreams and encouraging me every step of the way of Dream It, Believe It, Make it Happen!

Also, to my Pet Parents! Without them I don’t know if any of this would be possible. They are my 2nd family; and I love each and every one of them. Their Furrbabies are our Furrbabies! We celebrate or cry together when needed, but most of all they check In on me, and are my biggest cheerleaders!
