We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Alejandra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bianca Alejandra, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I am someone who has such a variety of interests and I’ve had the opportunity to explore so many of them. That’s why I would say that the most impactful thing I’ve done is take risks.
I’ve played instruments, sang in choirs, dabbled in acting and modeling. I hosted a podcast for two years. And my most recent adventure has been self publishing TWO books in the last year.
I want my kids to learn that it’s okay to dream big and that even if the chance you take doesn’t turn out the way you thought it would, if you tried your best it was still worth it in the end.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve officially been in education since 2015. Really, I’ve been in it since before that. I remember being a freshman in high school and doing after school tutoring with my Algebra I teacher. He’s the same person who told me that I would one day become an educator. I definitely didn’t agree with him at the time. He was right though. It’s a calling.
I work Monday-Friday at an elementary school where I assist in the kindergarten bilingual class. It’s such a privilege to be able to work with kids that I see myself in. I was also blessed with an additional role at the school as the part time librarian!! And those who know me know that books are a happy place for me. Now I have a library at school and at home!
Aside from that, I teach modeling, acting, and personal development on the weekends to kids age 8-19. I went through the program at Barbizon when I was a senior in high school and being back as an instructor has been so much fun. I’ve had the opportunity to travel and create so many connections through them so I’m definitely looking forward to continuing to grow in the company and am excited for all the new things coming up in this ever-changing industry!!!
It hasn’t all been rainbows and sunshine. There’s been times when I’ve worked Monday-Sunday for two weeks straight and I’ve been ready to throw my hands in the air and walk away but I love what I do.
I think we all experience moments where we begin to doubt that where we are in life is where we’re meant to be. But I don’t think we all have moments of clarity that confirm it for us — A few weeks ago, at a book signing, a young woman came up to me and asked if I recognize her. After a short second I realized she was one of my former students. I caught up with her and her mom for a few minutes and took a picture with them as well. THAT was a moment of clarity. I taught her when she was in fifth grade. She’s now seventeen years old and she still remembered who I was.
Her mom said “You must’ve really made an impact.” I said, “That’s the job.”
It’s not been easy but it’s been worth it.
And I especially love that I get the breaks off to spend with my babies.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a bookworm so honestly I’m happy just being curled up on my couch reading. Whenever I do go out it’s usually for the most important meal of the day — brunch. Chicken and waffles are my absolute fav and you gotta pair it with a good mimosa. Dandelion Cafe has such a cute aesthetic so that’s always a hit and Buzz & Bites has become one of my top places as well. The Menil is my go to museum. The Houston Book Warehouse is my go to book store. I recently came across Two Tones Piano bar in the Woodlands and I’d definitely want to go back. I’m not much of a nightlife girly anymore but Flor de Cuba is always a fun place to go out and dance. And CHAYNS is where you go if you want a blast from the past. Local markets are my FAV though. It’s such a great time meeting like minded individuals who are out there chasing their dreams!!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have always supported my wildest dreams, even when they don’t necessarily understand the why behind them. They came here from Mexico in order to give us more opportunities and I’ve taken all the ones I’ve been given.
My brothers definitely think I’m crazy but they’ve stood by my side and are always there for my kids when I’m not able to be there.
Speaking of, MY KIDS. When I’m feeling lost, I turn to them. They are my greatest dream come true and biggest motivation to continue to dream.
I truly would not be where I am today without the support of my family. Given AND chosen.
I say so often that I don’t have a lot of friends and that’s because I wholeheartedly see my girls as my family. They’ve seen the darkest parts of me and have pulled me from the depths so that I could keep pushing. They make sure my story doesn’t have an end.
I tried not to be sappy and be all my man my man my man. But OMG! I have to thank my boyfriend. Even though it feels kind of silly using that word now that I’m nearing thirty, especially after using the word husband before.
It’s no secret, especially to those who have followed my podcast, that I went through a tough period before, during, and after my divorce. Finding someone who I truly see as a partner didn’t seem like it was in the cards for me. Opening my heart and life to him has been one of the greatest blessings though. And he came along around the time I was considering releasing my books so he played a big role in those publications whether he knows it or not. His support leaves me speechless sometimes.
He’s always pushing me to look toward the future and figure out a plan to achieve what I’m after. Having someone be there by my side to hold me accountable is amazing. Don’t even get me started on all of fun adventures we’ve experienced together. I think the biggest change he’s made in my life though is the final thanks I’m going to give. After I spent years drifting away, he brought me closer to God.
My relationship with religion has been rocky for a while. I’ve never lost faith but I’ve certainly questioned the journey every now and then. However, I have to thank God. I know that everything has happened for a reason and it will all work out in the end.
