Meet Dolores Hernandez | Owner/Creative Director, DHP Advertising & Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dolores Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dolores, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Entrepreneurship has always been in my blood. Even as a child, I was eager to create and build something. I vividly remember starting my first business at just six years old – a candy shop run from my front door, selling unique sweets my grandmother brought me from Mexico to the neighborhood kids. It was a short-lived venture, as the sugar-fueled chaos caught the attention of parents concerned about cavities and energy spikes. While it didn’t last long, that experience sparked my passion for turning ideas into action, a drive that has stayed with me throughout my life and ultimately led me to start my own business.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is rooted in the art and science of advertising, where I specialize in positioning my clients as authorities in their respective fields. What sets me apart is my storybook approach to advertising—I dive into my clients’ passions and craft compelling narratives that showcase their expertise and connect with their audience on a personal level. From creating dynamic television campaigns with strong calls to action that drive steady streams of customers, to shaping impactful social media strategies that foster meaningful consumer relationships and brand loyalty, my work is about making businesses unforgettable.
Over the years, I’ve become widely known for producing memorable local television commercials with slogans that have become part of Houston’s cultural fabric. For example, I helped create the iconic Hilton Furniture campaigns featuring the slogan, “That’s a Fact, Jack!” and the unforgettable C&D Scrap Metal spots with the slogan, “We’ll Pay You in Two Dollar Bills.”
Getting here hasn’t been easy—it’s been a journey of learning, perseverance, and innovation. Challenges have ranged from navigating industry shifts to adapting to new technologies. Each hurdle has taught me invaluable lessons: the importance of staying ahead of trends, listening to clients, and never losing sight of the human connection behind every ad.
For the past 20 years, I’ve been Houston’s go-to creative for businesses that want their brands to stick in people’s minds and inspire action. My story is one of passion, creativity, and unwavering commitment to helping my clients shine—and that’s what I want the world to know about me and my brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re a foodie, Houston is a dream come true. The city offers endless culinary delights that could take several lifetimes to explore fully. For a week-long trip, I’d start with a meal at Kiran’s Restaurant, where the elegant Indian cuisine will leave you amazed. Then, we’d hit some beloved local spots like Barnaby’s Cafe for a cozy, casual bite and Empire Cafe for its charming atmosphere and delicious coffee.
No trip would be complete without indulging in Houston’s vibrant dessert scene, so we’d stop at Dessert Gallery, where the cakes and confections are extraordinary. To quench your thirst, we’d tour some of the city’s fantastic local breweries and ice houses, perfect for soaking in Houston’s laid-back vibes.
For a bit of adventure, we’d explore Houston’s diverse food truck scene, offering flavors from nearly every culture imaginable, and discover hidden gems in the form of dive restaurants that never fail to surprise and delight. Whether you’re after fine dining or a casual culinary experience, Houston has it all, making every meal an adventure.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Producer and Director Mario Alberto Leal was a pivotal mentor and guiding force early in my career. As a renowned voice talent and the creative mind behind Cacti Broadcast Productions, he exemplified wisdom, boundless optimism, and a “can-do” attitude that continue to influence my business approach to this day. Long before I envisioned myself as a commercial producer, Mario was already excelling in the field, and his support helped ignite my journey. His encouragement and expertise laid the foundation for my growth and success, and I’m deeply grateful for the role he played in shaping my path.
