We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Dorsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always had a creative mind. Painting, drawing, and sketching have been hobbies of mine since I could really remember. Honestly being creative brings me peace and puts my mind at ease. So lashing is right up my alley, I get to create sets custom to each of my clients!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Starting a lash extension business, I did it on the faith of knowing how much I enjoy connecting with people. It went from something I liked getting done (my own lashes) to a service I enjoy providing. It keeps my mind at peace, but it’s also an experience I love giving to my clients! I got where I am with the support of God and my village, with dedication, and practice. Saying it was easy would be an ultimate lie, it was definitely a test of faith. So many late nights were (and still are) poured into practicing my craft, times where I’m up researching better products and materials or how to better myself in other ways. Practicing exceptional professionalism while also abiding by policies is also something that’s super difficult and isn’t always talked about. The way I overcome challenges to this day is by pushing through them honestly. Things come up in different areas of business, but you have to have patience and faith on navigating the outcome. I’ve learned that believing in yourself and having perseverance will take you a long way. Stay on course and keep your focus, everything will work out if it’s genuinely for you.
I want it to be known that when a door closes on you, it doesn’t mean you’re taking an L. Sometimes you’re being protected from something on the other side of that door, your time is coming and what’s for you will never pass you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Now yall know Houston is known for having great taste in music, night life and food! I’d take my friends to Buffalo Bayou park for a good picnic if the weather is right, but dining out is difficult! It depends on what you’re going for, but The Breakfast Klub has some of the best southern breakfasts. If you’re looking for something multicultural, definitely Travelers Table, and Quotes has some bomb soul food! Hang out at Post or at a park downtown for some scenery and girl time. We’d definitely hit Nameless for some good vibes and hookah. There’s so much to do and so many places to be in Houston that there’s literally no wrong answer, but check out some concerts here if you see any artists you’re interested in coming to the city! Concerts never fail me here, the rodeo is always a blast, and any of the town squares offer comfortable places to just walk and vibe if you’re one of those types of people like myself!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My support system entirely! My family, friends and loved ones have kept me going and encouraged me all throughout my walks of life. For them I prosper and shed the same light they present to me.
