Meet Jeff Cowart | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Cowart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeff, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My mother in law was my inspiration. After years of smoking meat she suggested I have. Prost to sell.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I began my journey in cooking Texas style barbecue as a hobby and wanting to make something special for my family and friends.
After about three years of me smoking meats and trying to be my personal best, my mother-in-law indicated I had a product worth selling. At this moment, a fire lit inside of me and it hasn’t burned out yet. We’ve made it as far as we have by being persistent and willing to try new things. Luckily for us we’ve organically grown at a manageable pace. Some of my most valuable experiences and life lessons have been through my entrepreneurial journey. You end up learning a lot, not because you want to, but because you have to in order to keep going forward. Sometimes you need that feeling of sink or swim in order to make progress. Nowadays, we hang out in the amazing City Of Houston, bicycle community and support some of the best cyclists in the world with our food, drinks, and emergency bicycle parts.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In a weeklong trip, we would focus on Houston Texas and the surrounding areas. We would have Ramen in Chinatown, we would eat Mexican food from Taqueria de Jalisco, we would have breakfast at Dot’s diner. We would visit Austin Texas and embrace the weirdness. We eat more barbecue at Franklin‘s, we visit the graffiti wall, take a tour of sixth Street.
We finish the week off at South Padre Island, where we would go offshore fishing and eat what we caught.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a few people that come to mind when I think about recognition in my story.
My mother-in-law and father-in-law immigrated to the United States from Mexico and have been an amazing loving influence in my life, because of them, my love for food became a profession. My wife is my business partner, best friend, confidant, mother to our two beautiful sons and without her support, we would not be where we are today. If we’re talking books, thinking and grow rich, the richest man in Babylon, Coach wooden pyramid of success, and almost all the material from Jim Rohn.
