We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanya Rosenzweig and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanya, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There are a lot of factors that determined my decision to start my own business. 1. Like a lot of other people, I experienced a lot of broken and dysfunctional work environments and it was really too stressful.
2. As a Latinx female; in the last corporate job I held I was alone in the boardroom and held to higher standards than my peers.
3. I didn’t want to keep working hard to make the same amount of money for myself and more money for someone else.
4. I wanted to build something of my own.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Since COVID really impacted my design business I’ve been focusing on making sticker gifs for Instagram. I have been working mostly with small brands and for them, social media can really make or break a small business. The power of social media and having a strong web presence can expose a small, local brand to customers around the world who otherwise without it would have a really difficult time reaching them. I really enjoy working with small brands because the only way to go is up and these are the people that are hungry for growth. Up until COVID, I’d been working in branding for the length of my design career. As work was barely trickling in I was trying to think beyond what I was doing to help bring in some extra cash. I thought of where people are right now. Since everyone is at home, where can they see me now? Well everyone is on social media. Brands are getting some extra screentime especially when they’re active on social media. So my services are best for those types of businesses. The types that really understand the benefit of utilizing social media as a marketing tool. Sticker gifs take my knowledge of brand identity, mix it with my design knowledge, and then add animation to create little ways for customers to engage with a brand even more. It makes little brand ambassadors of your followers. Each brand I’ve worked with has at least 1 million views on its branded sticker gifs. My own channel has over 29 million views and I’ve connected with new friends and customers as far as Australia. Which I think is very cool.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First place we’ll go is to my local antique mall. We’ll look for treasures and probably leave with something cute or old and dusty. I love reading old postcards and seeing art and imagining whose home these items used to occupy. Then we’ll go to the Deep Eddy Pool because it’s guaranteed to always be hot in Texas. We’d eat Kawaii ice and some lumpia at Little Mama’s Filipino Food (I did their branding) in Round Rock. We’d have Brisket Po’ Boys at Bill Miller, Snow Cones at Momo’s in E. Austin (I did sticker gifs for them), we’d go to My mom’s house, My mother-in-law’s house, and fruit cups at Pepe’s Fruit Cup. We would visit Lady Bird Lake and maybe rent a swan pedal boat and pedal around if it’s not too hot. Austin is a lot of fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Partner Robert. He has been the person who has encouraged me, supports me, stands by me, believes in me. He owns his own business and he continues to thrive. He’s an inspiration to me.
