Meet Kel Domo | Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kel Domo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kel, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in the U.S., but my roots are in Tanzania. Growing up with both cultures shaped who I am today—giving me a deep appreciation for resilience, adaptability, and the importance of community. Every chance I get I wear my Tanzanian roots proudly and want to shed as much light on where I’m from as I can. I want to make all my people from TZ proud that one of their own is seeing massive success and I want to put TZ on the map and inspire lots of young ones from there that they can do the same. I value my culture and tradition very strongly, and I have a deep love for family my immediate and extended family that live all over the world but come from Tanzania like me. My African roots taught me about work ethic, my dad being a powerful example of that in my life. My mother as well. That blend of experiences has made me who I am—someone who values both heritage and growth, always finding strength in where I come from.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I never want to put myself in a box, but if I had to describe my genre I’d say I’m an Afrornb and hip hop artist. The biggest thing about my art is the message. Since day one I’ve always set out to positively impact as many people as I possibly can, whether that’s with fun or if I can touch their lives with a real message. I stand for self love, and learning how to truly love yourself, which is what inspired my upcoming album, Love Me?. That’s my most personal body of work to date that I’ve been working on since 2023, and my supporters will hear me in a way they’ve never heard me before. From the production, to the message, to the delivery, all of it 100% authentic.
It was not easy to get where I am today, mainly because I was doing it all on my own. Recording myself, writing my own songs, producing, mixing and mastering, then recording and editing my own videos and content, plus promotion, I’ve mostly done all of those myself and had to teach myself those skills cause I couldn’t afford to pay anyone to do it for me. I’m also very stubborn when it comes to my dreams, my whole life I’ve always accomplished what people say I shouldn’t be able to for whatever reason, and that’s true with music as well. Through all that, I learned to be my own biggest fan, and to trust in the thousands of hours of work I put in, to give myself unwavering confidence in my abilities because I know the work I put in. My brand and music represents love, self love, enjoyment, and real life experiences/struggles/messages/ concepts.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to Saaya and the rooftop bar at green light social. I would definitely take them to kick it at circle on Saturday nights hosted my boys at Free Life Entertainment. But you know I’m African so we need to go to Xsheesha, fusion vibes, zodiac lounge, SoHo, etc. spots like that. If my boy MC Mychel or Dj Femzy are at the spot it’s even better, they make everything lit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Dad and Mom, My Siblings, my extended family because it really does take a village. My boy B’Lone and Coach Julian (my kickboxing coach).
As far as music artists go, my boy Kirian and Alphamoses.
And shoutout Tanzania!
