We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I believe risk taking is necessary. While I do not agree with how it is labeled, everything in this world is a risk. We can step out on our faith and self belief, and trust that we have done the work to be prepared. I believe the greatest risk is not taking action and staying where you are. We are moving in two directions daily, either up or down, but never in the same spot. I believe I have looked at every situation in my life from a 360 view and made the decision that I felt was best in that moment. It has not always been the best choice in every situation, but I believed in my abilities and took a chance on myself. To me, risk is a calculated series of decisions. It has lead me to this point. Risk is never a bad thing if you plan for it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Training young athletes is my passion. I have been around sports, particularly football, since 7th grade. I developed the love for the sport then and it has become a way of life for me. I have been able to grow my love of football into a business to give back. The many years of playing football from high school to Texas A&M and subsequently the pros, has helped me to gain the wisdom and influence to pour into my athletes. I was fortunate to have a lot of great coaches show me the ropes along the way and give me the information to share with others. I’ve have learned to meet my athletes where they are. Each athlete begins at a different point, and you have to grow and nurture that ability and skillset to get the best out of them. I have learned that to be a great trainer/coach, you have to learn to communicate effectively and make it a fun and positive environment. I tell my athletes, “leave it better than you found it.” I want people to look at us and know we left a positive mark in our community. We are helping to shape the next generation through athletics.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LOL, this one is tough for me. I am generally a home body. When I am not on the field, I spend the majority of my time at home recharging. Depending on the time of the year, you can’t go wrong with taking in a Houston sporting event. There are a lot of eating places, but my go to spots are on the North side of the city. I love a great hamburger, so Stantons City Bites is a must. For our Mexican food choice, pick one! I think Lupe Tortillas is a good choice. For our Italian food choice, we will visit Polatas, in The Woodlands. For a good lunch choice, Flower Child in the The Woodlands. To round out the week, we would visit Kirby’s Icehouse to watch a couple of games and relax. As you can see, it would revolve around our love for sports, food and good company.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has always been my rock. Even after my mother passed away, my family has always been supported of my decisions and the dreams I have set. They show up! While they are my biggest fans, they also are able to give me perspective. This journey has been challenging, but my family, children and friends have made it a little easier to navigate. The candid conversations and honest feedback from family and friends will always be welcome.
