We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenedi Willner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenedi, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Becoming a mother inspired me to start a small business that would allow me to stay home with my child and avoid putting them in daycare. I’ve always had a creative side, and I originally started with a business that involved sublimation and vinyl. While that venture didn’t stick, it taught me a lot and ultimately led me to where I am now.

Today, I own Kenedi’s Wax Melt Company LLC. What truly pushed me into this business was my love for being a Scentsy consultant and always having wax melts stocked at home to make it smell good all the time! After talking it over with my husband, we realized there was a real opportunity not just to sell something I love, but to offer a safer, healthier alternative. Many big-name brands like Scentsy, Bath & Body Works, and Yankee Candle use harsh chemicals that can affect the air you breathe. I wanted to do better.

Now, I get to provide high-quality, non-toxic wax melts that people can feel good about using in their homes. And really—who doesn’t love candles or wax melts?

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My candles are made with wood wicks, giving them a longer-lasting, slow-burning effect and a soft crackling sound that adds to the cozy experience. My wax melts aren’t just square either, I handcraft them in fun shapes and vibrant colors, making each melt feel like a little piece of joy. I use non-toxic materials, so families can feel good about using them in their homes.

What sets me apart isn’t just the product it’s the connection I make with my customers. I’m always open to feedback and love bringing people’s ideas to life. Recently, I started creating funny custom labels based on customer suggestions, and I even had the honor of designing a custom “In Loving Memory” label for a young girl who passed away from cancer. That candle was part of a silent auction basket at her benefit, and it reminded me why I do this, not just to sell products, but to bring warmth and meaning to people’s lives.

Getting to where I am today hasn’t been easy. There have been plenty of learning curves, late nights, and moments of doubt. But every challenge taught me something: to stay consistent, listen to my customers, and never lose sight of why I started. I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m even more excited for what’s ahead.

If there’s one thing I want the world to know about Kenedi’s Wax Melt Company, it’s that this business is built on love, intention, and heart. Whether it’s a candle with a funny label that makes someone laugh, or a wax melt that brings peace after a long day, I pour a little piece of myself into everything I make. This is more than a business—it’s a way to make life just a little bit brighter, one scent at a time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, I’d make sure they had the best time exploring the Houston and Webster area with me. There would definitely be a few days where we’d head to La Brisa in League City for lunch or dinner it’s one of those go-to spots that never disappoints. We’d probably take a drive into downtown Houston to check out The Post, which has a bunch of different food vendors and is great for trying new things. When it comes to hanging out, we’d keep it casual and fun maybe hit up a karaoke bar or find a good hole-in-the-wall spot with strong drinks and a laid-back crowd.

For activities, I’d take them to one of the fun putt-putt spots around Houston just to bring out our competitive side and we’d definitely make time for some interactive museums, because we both love hands-on experiences. If the timing worked out, we’d try to catch a Houston Astros game or maybe even a concert if someone good was in town. The week would be a mix of good food, great company, and making memories in some of my favorite local places.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without a doubt, I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband and son. My journey into small business ownership began because of them. Becoming a mother motivated me to find a way to be present for my child while still chasing my own goals and my husband has supported every step, from brainstorming ideas to encouraging me on tough days. He believed in me and the vision for Kenedi’s Wax Melt Company LLC, even before I fully believed in myself.

I also want to recognize my close friend Brianna Morenz and extended family who never hesitate to promote my business, buy products, and offer kind words that keep me going. And of course, a big thank you to my customers many of whom started as strangers and became loyal supporters and part of my story. Their feedback, encouragement, and love for clean, safe products are what keep me pouring and pushing forward.

Every small business has a village behind it and mine is the best one I could ask for.
