We had the good fortune of connecting with Chara Newbill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chara, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The key to the success of my business has always been rooted in two things: unwavering community support and having the right team by my side. No matter how great your service or vision may be, without people believing in you and a solid crew to help bring that vision to life, it simply won’t work. I’ve learned that building a business is a lot like doing hair—if the foundation isn’t strong, nothing will hold. I owe everything to the clients who’ve trusted us over the years and to the dedicated team members who show up with passion, skill, and heart. Without them, I’d just be standing in a salon talking to myself… which, let’s be honest, I’ve done a few times anyway!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was truly born to do hair. It’s an art that’s always lived inside of me—something I didn’t have to chase because it was already a part of who I am. Over the years, I’ve sharpened my craft by constantly educating myself, evolving with the industry, and staying committed to growth. One thing I’ve learned is, if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it. Nothing worth doing in life comes easy, and every path has its challenges. But the biggest challenge of all is learning not to walk away from situations just because they’re hard. I’ve trained myself to face obstacles head-on and never accept defeat—because resilience is just as important as talent.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston is one of the most diverse and dynamic cities in the country, offering an incredible mix of culture, cuisine, and experiences. If someone were visiting me for a week, I’d make sure they left with a full stomach and unforgettable memories. We’re home to some of the most world-renowned restaurants—whatever you’re craving, Houston has it and does it well. From fine dining to legendary food trucks, there’s no shortage of flavors to explore. After we eat our way through the city, I’d take them to enjoy one of Houston’s many outdoor gems—whether it’s strolling through Buffalo Bayou Park, visiting the Museum District, or catching a sunset at Hermann Park. There’s truly something for everyone here, and that’s what makes Houston so special.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My father has been the greatest mentor in my life and the foundation of my entrepreneurial spirit. Watching him build and sustain Fred Bennett Creations—a jewelry store that has thrived for over 50 years—showed me firsthand what discipline, integrity, and hard work truly look like. His example taught me that success isn’t just about talent; it’s about consistency, patience, and treating people with respect. Without his guidance and belief in me, I honestly don’t think I would have had the courage to open my own business, let alone believe it could succeed. He made the impossible feel possible, and for that, I’ll always be grateful.
