Meet Mike | Founder and Senior Pastor of FAM City Center

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risks is essential for success and I equate risk with my faith. The eyes of my heart which I call vision are able to see far beyond what my natural eyes can see. God gave us that ability so we can dream of a future He wants us to create.
The role risks have played in my life is given me the ability to grow. Our potential ceases to be our potential when we achieve something. It requires another risk to reach another level. This process repeats itself until our potential helps us accomplish our purpose. I am very happy for all the risks I have taken for it has allowed me to become the person I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets our ministry apart from others is our grace to reach the youth. We launch events called Day of Deliverance where we get people forgiven (salvation), free (deliverance), and filled (baptism in the Holy Spirit). We also launched Family First Fridays because we want our youth to have strong marriage and healthy families. We also do Last Day Leaders Conferences because we want to equip the next generation of leaders with tools to use for the marketplace.
I am most proud of the lives that we have seen changed over the last six years. I have had several parents thank us for helping their kids get off the street and live a life of sobriety. This makes us the most happy knowing our work is never in vain.
It was extremely difficult to get to where I am today. I started this ministry with no help, no funding, no team, and no network of churches. I was working full time in the bank and also planting the church doing over 80+ hours a week. Only by Gods grace was I able to succeed. It took three years but I was finally able to leave the bank and do ministry full time. We now have six years of existence with twelve strong ordained leaders and multiple small groups and departments.
Some of the lessons I learned is to not focus on money but vision. Money will always find and fund vision. Those with the greatest vision will always receive the greatest support. You need to learn to write and communicate your vision. This is an extremely important lesson because people will not follow or get passionate about what they do not understand. Putting a proper process in place allows a direct flow to take place where a corporate community can commit to something bigger than themselves. I also learned that what you are becoming is far more important than what you are doing. All of your trials, set backs, and sufferings are what make you the leader you are today. Setting an example for the youth that they can model is a priceless gift that you give to the next generation. People who set this standard should be praised, honored, and appreciated.
I want the world to know that Jesus saved me and turned a former drug addict into a Pastor. This coming January 2026 I will celebrate 19 years of being clean and sober. I have a beautiful wife I have been married to for 12 years. We have five kids one who is in Heaven. I have a sister who loves and believes in me, and a mom and dad who still support me and serve with me in our ministry. I am a very blessed man!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to gauchos to eat which is a churrascaria with tons of meat. My wife and I love this place and it’s fancy. On the other hand our favorite foodchain is Whataburger. It started in Corpus Christi and that is where my parents are originally from. If they love shopping I would send them to our downtown Houston’s mall called the galleria, but my wife would probably send them to Mardel which is a Christian store and I love Hobby Lobby. It’s the only store I will shop in because I do not like shopping.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my parents who always believed in me. There names are Martin and Delia Hernandez. They would always ask me when are you going to start your own ministry? Now they both serve with me and we started six years ago in their home. I cannot thank them enough for always supporting me and my family and the call of God on my life.
