We had the good fortune of connecting with DeShauna Loud and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeShauna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting Lifted D Photography was rooted in storytelling and representation. I come from the culture I photograph, and I understood early on that the moments, people, and legacy within it deserved to be documented with care and authenticity. I didn’t want to simply capture images — I wanted to preserve history and elevate narratives that are often overlooked or misunderstood.
Creating my own business gave me the freedom to tell those stories on my own terms. Lifted D Photography became a platform where passion meets purpose, allowing me to highlight resilience, excellence, and pride within the western and rodeo community. Through my work, I aim to create imagery that feels powerful, honest, and lasting — photographs that not only reflect the moment but honor the journey behind it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is rooted in authenticity, resilience, and lived experience. I’m the first Black female rodeo photographer on this side of town, and in a field that has traditionally been male-dominated, that alone sets me apart. I don’t just document the sport — I understand it from the inside. I’ve competed heavily myself, and that background allows me to anticipate moments, emotions, and details that can’t be taught. What I capture comes from instinct, respect, and deep cultural connection.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. I didn’t step into this with unlimited resources or a clear blueprint. I had to build my own equipment over time, make strategic adult decisions, and learn how to balance passion with responsibility in order to afford the lifestyle that comes with this work. There were moments that tested my confidence and endurance, but my resilience is what carried me forward. I’m most proud of my ability to keep going — to adapt, learn, and show up even when the path wasn’t comfortable.
Along the way, I’ve learned the value of patience, discipline, and believing in your vision even when others don’t see it yet. I’ve learned that representation matters, and that creating space for yourself often means becoming the first. What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that Liftedd Photography is about elevation — elevating culture, community, and legacy. I came from dominating in the arena to dominating behind the camera, and every image I create is a reflection of that journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to town, I’d take them off the grid first. Huntsville has a quiet beauty to it, and the best way to experience it is by slowing all the way down. We’d start the week glamping in a secluded cabin outside the city — tucked into the trees, away from noise, expectations, and distractions. Think peaceful mornings, fresh air, and uninterrupted conversations.
Glamping isn’t just about where you sleep — it’s about how you reset. We’d spend our days cooking together, grilling outside, and having late-night dinners under the stars. Mornings would start slow with coffee on the porch, journaling, and sunrise walks through the woods. There’s something grounding about being disconnected that lets you reconnect with yourself and the people around you.
During the day, we’d explore nature — hiking trails, creek walks, and spontaneous photo sessions using natural light and scenery. Evenings would be for music, board games, storytelling, and maybe a fire pit moment with good drinks and laughter. It’s the kind of fun that doesn’t need a schedule — just intention.
Once we re-enter town, we’d keep things local and laid-back. We’d stop by small eateries, support local spots, and spend time people-watching around Sam Houston State University. Huntsville’s charm is in its simplicity — the blend of history, community, and space to breathe.
For me, the most exciting part isn’t a packed itinerary — it’s the people, the presence, and the ability to truly unplug. Huntsville offers a slower pace that feels refreshing, and that’s what I’d want my best friend to experience: peace, laughter, and memories made without rushing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would absolutely dedicate my shoutout to STAR Rodeo. That’s where the story truly began. They were the first association to take a chance on me, trust my vision, and give me the opportunity to build my platform. Their support created the foundation for everything that followed, and I’ll always recognize them as a key part of my journey.
STAR Rodeo didn’t just open a door — they allowed me space to grow, create, and find my voice as a photographer. That belief meant more than access; it meant validation at a time when it mattered most. I’m incredibly grateful for the role they played in helping shape both my business and my confidence behind the lens.
