We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
What are our keys to success? Faith, vision, persistency, the will to do, location, continuity, accessibility, sacrifice, obedience, and ACTION!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My story was very non traditional in the sense of traditional business start up. I literally had a vision, the will, the skill, a wax pot (bought with bartered services), a massage bed, a 10 pound bag of wax, and about $500 to my name. Not to mention only three days to find a brick and mortar space after making a failed beginners business partnership decision. My growing pains induced my labor to give birth to Plucked and More- full throttle, buy any means necessary. Growing up in Humble and knowing the culture of the suburbs. I ventured to the city to seek a different demographic. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that location was key! It was pure fate that I scored a hidden gem location in the heart of Houston Heights. Once I secured a space and incorporated a credible booking link we were able to reach the people, the word of mouth advertising began, and I turned profit as a sole proprietor within three months! I I believe Plucked and More attracts the free flowing committed consumer, because it’s the energy we create and put out. We are a vibe and we strive to provide a liberating experience within each visit. Myself as well as my partners, treat people the way we want to be treated and we deliver the service we would expect as well. The service menu has grown from listening to the wants and needs of our target audience and staying connected in the community to create clean and credible one stop shopping. Plucked and More continues to grow and sustain these uncertain climates by building personal relationships with all to feel comfortable and commit to being loyal customers for their personal care needs. My ministry has given me the butterfly effect and I now know, people need people to elevate and thrive. Find your community and stay connected. Life’s challenges molds me and keeps me grounded.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whew honey, I feel like there hasn’t been much time for leisure, but I’m the kind of lady that can allow the mind to take you where you need to be, I can travel right here in the best city on this side of heaven. I love a low key itinerary, but there’s so many different ways to explore Houston. We would start off with happy hour at one on the local farm to table restaurants. I love Dish Society in the Heights. We would book a day at the Marriot Marque (for the pool), dinner at Pappasitos, Walk around and engage in activities at Discovery Green. We’ll also go to brunch at Phil and Derek’s, rent bikes and ride a few miles at Buffalo Bayou, Mastro’s Steakhouse and Truluck’s are a must for happy hour. We will accentuate our natural beauty at Plucked and More- then to a relaxing Moroccan experience at the Hammam Spa Houston. Afterwards, we will venture over to visit with my friend’s at Aladdin’s Mediterranean restaurant. Let’s not forget a hot kettle of tea and convo at Eq Heights and one more night of good eats to visit my good friend’s at Meat Mojo’s- Bryan Hawes. Yes all this is my kind of fun. We also have Axelrad, a bar with hammocks and music, and some great upscale bowling options. Oh oh oh and alllll the food trucks! We’ll hunt those down as well. I’m always searching for a spoken word and live music, my favorite cajun restaurant Cafe Rian (In Humble), offers live music from time to time. Music makes me feel alive.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can not name just one. My appreciation comes from serving the people! This is truly my ministry. The accountability factor pushes me and gives me drive to press into new levels. My kids make me go the extra mile always. I have Josh Espinosa, my personal Meril-Lynch finance guru who has grown with me, groomed me, bought my first industrial wax pot and facial machine, and planted great seeds in me. I have an amazing team that really cares. My estheticians that I love, as well as Alicia Jarmon- Textures Natural Hair Spa, Rhonda Schultz- Glowing Skin Bar. They are dependable and always ready to lend a helping hand! Anchoring myself in the spirit has been a very important factor. I continue to strive for healthy self governance and boundaries to stay centered and balanced to align mind, body, and soul. This work is continuous and everyday we strive to be greater, while also being grateful and graceful. My steps are ordered. A few books that have helped me from the inside out are the Bible (scriptures), my writings, Mark Nepo’s, The Book of Awakening, Don Miguel Ruiz with Janet Mills The Four Agreements, and Manifest Now Book by Idil Ahmed. I have had lots of support from my family and close friends. I am forever grateful for all aspects of my journey. I appreciate all of you and you know who you are!
