We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya Arguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maya, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I believe finding a work/life balance is one of the biggest challenges we face because it has so many moving parts. The biggest challenge is finding your discipline and putting that over your motivation. For me I find it especially challenging to have a full time job and have a hobby along with trying to live a healthy life by being active, sleeping enough, and socializing. But my biggest blessing is reminding myself that it only works as long as I am constantly challenging myself and gaining something from it. This can be learning a new skill, furthering my career, or just having a creative outlet. By finding these “why’s” I am able to prevent feeling out of balance. I also feel the key to finding this balance is giving myself grace periods. There are times when we get unexpected news or changes that may be big or small and I really try to listen to my body and my mind. Allowing myself a week from trying to hit goals or taking an unexpected nap when its needed can honestly make such a difference.Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is primarily my photography. At a young age I found a strong love for Travel and ever since I have been so inspired by new locations and beautiful destinations. It is impossible for me to explore a new place without a camera in my hand to capture it. This led me to posting more and more of my travel on my instagram and from there just growing a bit of a following. I absolutely love the inspiration that I get from being somewhere new and different. The thing I am the most proud of is actually just putting myself out there. The internet can be a scary place especially now that so many feel comfortable hiding behind their screens but for me it’s just been a great community that I never would have found had I not put myself out there. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being from The Woodlands I would of course recommend spending a few days there. The waterway and the shopping just cannot be beat. Pre or Post Covid I would also recommend going to a concert at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for great outdoor music. I also would highly recommend any and all of the art museums, there’s always new exhibits along with interactive exhibits that are so fun. An event that I would absolutely recommend is the Houston Rodeo, its honestly just a one of kind experience and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. With great music, rides, and all the fried food you can ask for its a true Texas gem. And to top it off, I would suggest just eating at as many restaurants as possible because there is so much amazing food in the Houston Area. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I find that my recognition all goes to my family. They have taught me to embrace change, take risks, and are the reason I fell in love with traveling which has sparked sharing my life on Instagram.
