Meet Sydney Pegram: CEO of Social Media Agency & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Pegram and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sydney, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my business and career has taught me is that not everything has to be perfect! It’s okay to make mistakes. I think everyone, especially when it comes to building a business, is that everything has to be in order, but that’s just not realistic. Mistakes are okay. Own them! We can’t learn with out falling here and there. The most important piece of the lesson is that once you make a mistake, or fall, you have to get back up. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am in the process of launching my own Social Media Agency named Pegram Motion Pictures. I have always dreamed of owning my own business that allows me to use my creative gifts to help others. I’m most excited to begin working on a larger-scale to help bring eye-catching and affordable media assistance to local and global brands. How did I get here? That’s a great question! I believe it’s always been apart of me. I grew up in the arts, whether it was dance, acting, singing, photography, film work, I’ve always had a passion for it. When I got older, I realized I could do all that I love in my career field, and what better way to do that than through my own business! It hasn’t always been easy. I have faced many set-backs from the pandemic, to those simply not believing the vision I had, especially as a Black Woman in the media industry, but all the challenges I’ve faced, have been worth it. The biggest lesson I’ve learned besides being alright with making mistakes, is not taking “no” for an answer. This industry is incredibly competitive, especially now that social media is the main road for marketing now, but people will always try to steer you away from your full potential. I will always strive to work hard and to go after what I want, which in the end as allowed me to have my own business at the age of 23.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love sharing my hometown with those I love. I would set up a fun girlfriends weekend trip, where we’d be able to spend time together, and enjoy the beautiful city of Houston. We would stay at the St. Regis in Uptown Houston, close to the Galleria, which gives us a prime spot to hit all the sides of town. It’s Saturday morning and we are spending the day living it up! We’d first grab breakfast/brunch at Snooze, to grab delicious pancakes and mimosa’s, before heading to Rice Village, maybe going to a museum or art pop-up, later to walk around and shop, while catching up at the Levy Park up the street! We’d later drive over to Ramen Tatsuya to eat a nice bowl of ramen, before heading back to the hotel to change for our fun night on the town! We’d first start at Bar Boheme in midtown, to have delicious Vietnamese styled fries, and delicious frozen margarita’s before bar hopping up the street, hitting Wooster’s, Axelrad, and ending the night at Glitter Karaoke! We would start out our Sunday Morning with Brunch at Tiny Boxwood’s, to grab great coffee, fresh mint lemonade, and delicious avocado toast and salads. Don’t forget to grab a box of cookies to go! We would then travel over to Highland Village and the River Oaks area to do some fun shopping! In need of a break to rest our wallets and feet, we’d settle into our hotel for a nice afternoon at the hotel spa, before spending our night having a nice relaxing glass of wine and steak at The Capital Grille down the street, before heading to our hotel for a nice relaxing night, before the weekend comes to a close! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my Mom, my close friend group, and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. for all my success. My mom has always been my number one supporter in all my dreams and aspirations. She was actually the one who pushed me to start my own business. My mom has always been able to see my gifts, before myself. She’s the first one to encourage me, and the first to pick me up when I fall. She’s my rock. My friend group is filled with loving, supportive, and logical thinkers. They’re the ones I seek when I need guidance, or someone to tell me how it is without sugar coating. They will always tell me the truth, no matter how much it make sting. I am so appreciative to have strong, encouraging people in my corner. I also want to thank Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Houston and Great Channel Chapter for all the years of mentorship. I joined when I was just a little girl, and I never realized how much they helped shape and mold me into the strong, Black, businesswoman I am today. They helped open my eyes to the world around me, while sharing the importance of tending to my gifts.
