We had the good fortune of connecting with Markeshia Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Markeshia, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Savvy Skills creates a safe space for women and girls to be their authentic selves through life skills and basketball, It is comprised of transformational coaching, career coaching, basketball skill development, team building and life skills and basketball events.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am most proud of how much Savvy Skills has grown with it only being 10 months young (est. May 12, 2020). I have seen a surge in interest in my services and in clientele over the last 4 months, specifically Team Building. I think the reason being is because I add a different approach than most team building experiences. I got to where I am today by always making sure I never take any opportunity for granted and most importantly being my authentic self. You never know where each opportunity can lead you and you never know who you are inspiring by just being yourself. “Opportunity leads to access, access leads to resources and having access to resources leads to success.” It has not been an easy journey at all, however, possessing adaptability skills, understanding that life is a process and staying grounded in my faith–has lead me to this moment in time. I’m grateful for everything I have been through. I would not be who I am or where I am today. I want the world to know that you can do anything you put your mind to. Your personal journey is the key to your brand development and your brand identity. My life’s journey is rooted in basketball, but my life’s purpose is to inspire young women and girls to be their authentic selves by creating their own narratives through life skills and basketball. Hence, Savvy Sills is my muse and where I am able to operate in my creative space. My hope is that this will inspire you to be your best self and operate from your creative space. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a huge shoutout to my former college basketball coach and mentor, the Hall of Fame player and Olympic Coach, Dawn Staley (the Head Women’s basketball coach at the University of South Carolina). She is the BEST leader I know in my life and I contribute a lot of the life lessons I’ve learned to her way of being. She always says “The disciplined person can do anything”; I believe being disciplined to the process of establishing success, has led me to where I am today. I am forever indebted to her.
